Computational Scientist - (18364)Description
Does a career focused on changing the world's energy future intrigue you? If so, we might have just the opportunity you're looking for!

Idaho National Laboratory's (INL) Computational Frameworks group is seeking forward-thinking professionals interested in exploring a career as a Computational Scientist.

Our team works an on-site 9x80 schedule located at our Collaborative Computing Center facility with every other Friday off!

Responsibilities Include:

Computational Scientist will be a strong asset to the MOOSE team, and work effectively both in isolation and as a member of the team. Must take direction from other team members and peers, and also provide input in a constructive manner to others while maintaining a positive and professional relationship with all even while under pressure and tight deadlines. Extensive documentation of work is required, which typically entails authorship of technical reports and research papers for refereed journals and proceedings. Demonstrate a high level of theoretical knowledge and familiarity of the PETSc mathematical and the LibMesh finite element libraries.

May lead computational multiphysics methods and code development and software teams. Specifically, assist with the development of advanced scientific numerical packages, frameworks, and multiphysics analysis tools for nuclear fuel performance modeling. Provide Software Quality Assurance. Oversee and develop computational science/math algorithms involving solutions of multiphysics problems, nonlinear solvers, and preconditioning, discretization of PDE systems, finite element methods, and discontinuous Galerkin methods. Organize team research and may lead advanced research and development.

Minimum Requirements:
  • PR0200: PhD in computational science, nuclear engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science, other engineering, or a closely related field is required.
PR0300: PhD and 2 years related experience in computational science, nuclear engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science, other engineering, or a closely related field is required.

    • Requires formal education and/or experience in one or more of the following areas: (1) computational science/math involving solutions of multiphysics problems, nonlinear solvers, and preconditioning, (2) discretization of PDE systems, finite element methods, discontinuous Galerkin methods, or (3) numerical methods such as multiphysics coupling strategies, multiscale methods, and high order time integration. This experience may be in the form of postgraduate work, publication of refereed journal articles, or equivalent.
    • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills are required, as well as fluency in C++, Python, and the development of advanced mathematical software.
    • Requires appreciable knowledge of numerical analysis, computational science, scientific computing and scientific software engineering.
    • Requires experience programming various finite element discretization techniques, parallel computing, and the development of complex scientific software for the coupled solution of systems of PDEs is expected.
    • Requires appreciable knowledge of computational science, scientific computing, and numerical methods for models, such as Euler's and Navier Stokes equations.
