Therapeutic targeting of a novel myeloid immune-checkpoint to overcome chemoresistance in breast cancer

£31,406 - £33,309 pa (Level 4.27-29, depending on experience)

Centre for Cancer Immunology, Cancer Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, University of Southampton

The Antibody and Vaccine Group based in the newly opened Centre for Cancer Immunology in Southampton has a strong track-record in basic and translational immunology. One of its central aims is to develop new and more effective antibody reagents for treating cancer.

An exciting opportunity now presents itself for a postdoctoral Research Fellow to investigate therapeutic targeting of a key myeloid checkpoint inhibitor to overcome chemoresistance in breast cancer. This is an exciting interdisciplinary project in close collaboration with internal and external colleagues in academia and industry, which builds upon our previous work within the group (Roghanian et al ., Cancer Cell, 2015; Roghanian et al ., Cancer Immunol Res, 2019; Yeboah et al ., JCI Insight, 2020; Hussain et al ., J Exp Clin Cancer Res, 2022; Birts et al ., Sci Rep, 2022).

The post-holder will possess expertise in one or more of antibody biology, myeloid cells, transcriptomics, immunology or cell biology to gain new understanding of this immunoinhibitory receptor with the aim of improving cancer treatments.

You will be motivated, educated to PhD* level in a relevant subject area and ideally have practical laboratory experience of immunology, bioinformatics and in vivo methodologies.

*Applications will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon completion of PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.'

The position is full-time and for 36 months in the first instance. The start date is flexible but the successful candidate is expected to be in post soon. Please visit www.jobs.soton.ac.uk to apply. For an informal discussion or to arrange a visit please contact Dr Ali Roghanian ( A.Roghanian@soton.ac.uk ).
