We have an exciting new position available within the Bioimaging team at GSK, based at our world-class R&D site in Collegeville, PA. The role will focus on development of In-vivo Bioimaging technologies including Magnetic Resonance Imaging/Spectroscopy (MRI/S) to advance our project decision making based on drug distribution and functional pharmacology mechanistic endpoints.
The successful candidate will work in a state-of-the-art pre-clinical Bioimaging facility located at the Upper Providence campus in Collegeville, PA. The facility houses: Bruker 4.7T/40 cm horizontal and 9.4T/8.9 cm vertical MRI systems; Mediso MultiScan LFER150 PET/CT; Siemens Inveon PET/SPECT/CT; a radiochemistry lab (synthesizing and dispensing all in one Capintec hot cell, Sofie Biosciences ELIXYS Platform, HPLC, TLC, Cell incubator), GE & VisualSonics Ultrasound; IVIS and FMT Optical imaging systems; Laser Doppler imaging equipment.

Bioimaging at GSK


The Bioimaging department brings together key areas of in-vivo and ex-vivo imaging combined with histology to understand both disease state and intervention, combining data on drug distribution with the effect that distribution has on intact biological systems. As part of the wider In Vitro/In Vivo Translation platform we encourage enterprise collaboration as well as external partnership with the wider scientific community to achieve our full potential.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform in-vivo Bioimaging studies (study design, protocol, data acquisition, and image analysis) to support the needs of Discovery Research and business partners ranging from drug design through safety evaluation to product/device development.
  • Develop and apply state of the art MRI and MRS techniques to support drug discovery efforts within the organization.
  • Provide imaging guidance/solutions and collaborate closely with the Bioimaging department.
  • Responsible for study support and data generation/management and communication to project/program teams.
  • Through collaboration with imaging and non-imaging colleagues, integrate in-vivo Bioimaging data with other methodologies as part of a multi-modal approach to drive critical project decisions.
  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining instrument QC and service contracts with imaging vendors.
  • Responsible for animal care and use protocol writing and oversight of the animal imaging protocols.
  • Assure high standards for animal care and compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.


Why you?

Basic Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Physics, Biophysics, or similar and a minimum of 1 year of post-doctoral and/or industrial experience working with non-invasive imaging technologies is required.
  • Knowledge of visualization, statistics, and bioinformatic strategies.
  • 1 or more years experience with troubleshooting and maintaining complex instrumentation.
  • 1 or more years of established track record of continued scientific contributions through presentations and publications.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Hands-on experience with Bruker MRI/S systems.
  • Experience in performing In-vivo MRI/S studies in small and large animals and have training in integrative physiology and/or pharmacology.
  • Experience designing and implementing MRI/S sequences for assessing disease modification, biomarker development, and clinical translation.
  • Evidence of effective, collaborative interpersonal, organizational and communication skills, both oral and written, for working in a multi-disciplinary scientific team environment.
