Stony Brook University School of Medicine of the State University of New York invites applications for multiple Nurse Practitioners as part of the ICU/ICR team.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

This position serves as a healthcare professional who, under the direction and supervision of a licensed physician, will provide care to patients hospitalized in the Medical Intensive Care and/ or Covid Intensive Care Units at Stony Brook University Hospital. The NP/PA is expected to maintain and enhance a current level of knowledge relative to professional practice, as well as meet the requirements necessary for licensure and certification. The following duties will be expected:

The Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant will provide direct patient care to all adult patients in acute/crisis situations and coordinate care with a multidisciplinary team including physicians, RNs, respiratory therapists and radiology technicians.

Ensure continuity of care through communication with the primary care team through adequate management and proper handoff throughout the clinical management.

Provide consultation to patients upon request by nursing, primary team or consult teams to assist and facilitate care in an acute crisis.

Ensures the coordination/assistance in patient movement to a higher level of care when applicable.

Follow up on calls made to ensure adequate medical care was rendered.

Provide feedback to nursing unit and medical team members regarding the care of the patient.

Maintain level of expertise in field by attending medical conferences to maintain competency in the fields of crisis management and code resuscitation

SPECIAL NOTE: Shifts for this position are 12 hours with nights and weekend required. This assignment is subject to change based on the needs of Stony Brook University Hospital.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Nurse Practitioner: NYS license and certification as a Nurse Practitioner. Master's degree in nursing or completion of a course for a Nurse Practitioner.

Minimum of 3 years of critical care/acute care experience to include working in the ICU environment. BLS/ACLS certified.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Additional years of acute care/critical care as a NP/PA.
