This is an exceptional opportunity to work within the Secretariat of one of the United Kingdom's leading Institutions. Working closely with the University Secretary, you will fulfil the role of Deputy Secretary to support the discharge of her wider responsibilities and deputise for her when necessary. You will ensure the University has the structures and systems of governance in place to enable it to respond and compete effectively in a modern and fast changing environment, whilst ensuring the securing of appropriate standards of conduct and accountability.

As Director of Secretariat, you will provide strategic and operational leadership of the Secretariat and its support of governance committees. You will also be responsible to the Secretary to the University for all other functions falling within the Secretariat, including:

· Maintaining and promoting best standards of corporate governance;

· Managing student complaints and appeals procedures;

· Managing legal services to the University.

This will include advising the University Executive Group on regulatory, policy and compliance issues, as well as support to the University Secretary regarding the effective management of critical incidents and management of major projects.

Candidates should be experienced leaders who are comfortable working in a complex and ambitious environment. They must have the personal wherewithal to deputise for the University Secretary as required and be a credible advisor to senior academics and professional services colleagues alike. A sound knowledge of governance and compliance is vital, as is an understanding of the relevant policy backdrop that applies within the Higher Education Sector. People management is an important aspect of the role as the post-holder leads a large team that comprises of individuals from varying professional backgrounds.
