Requirements
Senior Lecturer
A PhD in Psychology. Candidates who have submitted their PhD for examination and pending results may be considered, provided convincing evidence is submitted. In addition, registration with the HPCSA as a Counselling psychologist required.
  • Three years of practice experience registered as a Counselling Psychologist with the HPCSA, and case supervision experience is advantageous.
  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels required.
  • Teaching experience and interest in any of the following areas is required:
    • psychological assessment, particularly cognitive assessments,
    • psycho-analytic psychotherapies,
    • child psychotherapies,
    • career assessment and counselling,
    • group therapy processes.
  • Multilingualism in teaching and case supervision is a distinct advantage.
  • Research supervision of at least Masters' degrees to completion required.
  • Emerging national profile in the discipline and credible record of publication in peer-reviewed publications.
  • Track record of administration, management and/or leadership roles (leadership roles may be informal).

Associate Professor
A PhD in Psychology, and registration with the HPCSA as a Counselling Psychologist.
  • Three years of practice experience registered as a Counselling Psychologist with the HPCSA, and case supervision experience is advantageous.
  • Considerable teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels required including Masters and PhD levels.
  • Teaching experience and interest in any of the following areas is required:
    • psychological assessment, particularly cognitive assessments,
    • psycho-analytic psychotherapies,
    • child psychotherapies,
    • career assessment and counselling,
    • group therapy processes
  • Multilingualism in teaching and case supervision is a distinct advantage.
  • Supervision of Masters degrees to completion is required. Supervision of PhD degrees to completion is an advantage.
  • National and emerging international profile in the discipline and substantial record of publication in peer-reviewed publications.
  • Proven record of and an active interest in administration, management and leadership.

Professor
A PhD in Psychology, and registration with the HPCSA as a Counselling Psychologist.
  • Three years of practice experience registered as a Counselling Psychologist with the HPCSA, and case supervision experience is advantageous.
  • Extensive teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels required including at Masters and PhD levels.
  • Teaching experience and interest in any of the following areas is required:
    • psychological assessment, particularly cognitive assessments,
    • psycho-analytic psychotherapies,
    • child psychotherapies,
    • career assessment and counselling,
    • group therapy processes.
  • Multilingualism in teaching and case supervision is a distinct advantage.
  • Supervision of Masters and PhD degrees to completion is required.
  • International profile in the discipline and outstanding record of publication in peer-reviewed publications.
  • Proven record of and an active interest in administration, management and leadership.

Please note that this appointment will be made in line with the requirements of the Employment Equity Act 55 of 1998, as amended and the University's recruitment and selection policies and equity strategies. The initial focus will be on equity candidates.

In terms of Immigration Legislation (Act No. 13 of 2002 & Regulations) as amended, international staff members (non-SA citizens) have to comply with the provisions of the Act. This therefore means that the period of employment to non-SA citizens will be guided by the validity period of the work permit. In line with legislation governing employment of foreign nationals, employment contracts will be offered on the basis that a development plan would be implemented for the transfer of skills to a South African resident. The onus is on candidates to ensure that they are in possession of a valid work permit before the commencement of employment at the University, failing which the employment with Rhodes University will be terminated.

Basic salary Provident fund: R595 558 per annum
Approximate cost to company: R845 211 per annum

Associate Professor
Basic salary Provident fund: R709 185 per annum
Approximate cost to company: R1 002 674 per annum

Professor
Basic salary Provident fund: R833 701 per annum
Approximate cost to company: R1 211 748 per annum
