The role

This is an exciting opportunity for two Senior Research Associates (SRAs) to join the ESRC Centre for Sociodigital Futures ( www.bristol.ac.uk/censof) as part of the Innovative Futures Studio, which lies at its heart. Within the Futures Studio, four cross-cutting threads- focussed on collaboration, design, methods, theories- will drive capacity building and intervention for sociodigital futures research. We are seeking experienced researchers with excellent track records in methodological experimentation, interdisciplinary, sociodigital research to work with the Futures Studio lead and Co-Is in the four threads. We are aiming to recruit two PDRAs with complementary skills, including: speculative design and making, digital methods, creative producing, creative technology, curating participation and engagement, theoretical approaches to sociodigital futures, collaborative, co-produced or participative research methods, practice and theory.

The post holders will be expected to bring their own research interests to the Futures Studio and contribute to the development and delivery of a programme of interdisciplinary and methodologically innovative activities and research through cross-Centre collaborations. We are interested in recruiting people who are skilled in designing and documenting interactive, creative workshops and events and who are able to collaborate with academic and non-academic partners across the centre.

What will you be doing?
  • Contributing to the design, development, implementation and delivery of fieldwork and distinctive research projects with the Futures Studio;
  • Working with the Futures Studio team to design and deliver a programme of creative workshop activities and events;
  • Collaborating with teams across the centre (Domains and Technological Affordance Projects) to co-ordinate, design and deliver research and other activities
  • Collaborating with the Centre's strategic partners in developing the programme of research, impact and engagement activities;
  • Playing a lead role in analysis and in the preparation of publications, other outputs (including blogs, project reports, policy briefing and working papers) and wider impact and engagement.
  • The successful applicant will be supported in establishing a strong research profile including research publications, impacts on policy and practice, and developing potential for securing external research funding.

You should apply if

You have:
  • A PhD or equivalent in a relevant field
  • Significant background knowledge and experience in interdisciplinary, collaborative and creative research with diverse publics and/ or across sectors;
  • Relevant theoretical and/or applied/practice based experience in sociodigital and/or futures research, (indicative experience might relate to creating, facilitating and/or designing programmes that support inter/transdisciplinary and cross-sectoral work with and interventions in sociodigital futures);
  • Proven innovative and experimental methodological skills and expertise (indicative areas include: collaborative, co-produced and participative methods, creative methods, design research methods, methods using new and emerging forms of data, and other innovative methodological approaches);
  • Strong emerging record of publication or practice-as-research in areas relevant to the Futures Studio activities;
  • Experience of collaboration with a diverse range of non-academic stakeholders;
  • Experience of:
    • independent and collegial academic contribution for fostering an active research culture
    • writing and producing academic and other written materials facilitating academic and other cross-sectoral workshops and events
