The International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) is the premier international membership association for physicians, researchers, and medical professionals, who are dedicated to conquering lung and thoracic cancers worldwide. We are seeking an Associate Director, Scientific Affairs to join our efforts to share this mission and research about amazing advancements in the treatment of lung cancer and to develop new scientific projects involving our esteemed members.

Day to day, the Associate Director, Scientific Affairs is responsible for the operations and strategic leadership of the Scientific Affairs team, including management of departmental staff and the management of projects developed by its relevant scientific committees of IASLC members. This position will provide specialized expertise in the basic sciences, translational/clinical science, and implementation science. The Associate Director will collaborate with the IASLC scientific advisory committee and internal and external stakeholders to develop, implement, manage, and fund new and existing scientific projects and programs.

The Associate Director, Scientific Affairs must be a positive, collaborative leader and organized manager who can effectively lead a team and manage multiple scientific initiatives. This is a full-time, supervisory position reporting to the Chief Science Officer and based at our Denver, Colorado office on a hybrid work schedule. Sponsorship is not available.

In this role, you will:

Work with the IASLC leadership, member committees, and external stakeholders to develop and deliver scientific projects and activities that are in alignment with the strategic vision and internal processes.
Effectively supervise, develop, and mentor to Scientific Affairs staff.
Facilitate the Scientific Affairs committee and task forces, providing management and administration for their respective projects and activities.
Write scientific and medical content for grants, proposals, projects, and manuscripts.
Develop and coordinate scientific content for IASLC website, electronic communications, and press releases.
Develop quality funding proposals and manage departmental and project budgets, timelines, and work plans.
Identify new opportunities to expand the scientific program and collaborate internally to further the goals of the IASLC's strategic plan.
Act as a consultative scientific expert for internal staff on topics related to thoracic oncology and ongoing scientific projects.
Stay updated on scientific research in thoracic oncology.
Foster ongoing partnerships with external organizations and stakeholders including pharmaceutical industry leaders, regulatory agencies and other associations and societies.
Actively support and demonstrate IASLC core values.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally, as needed.

$95,000-105,000 annually, depending on related experience and education.
Hybrid work schedule. Employees are based in our Denver office and are allowed to work remotely 2-3 days per week.

A successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

A deep commitment to the mission of the IASLC and compassion for those living with a lung cancer diagnosis
PhD, M.D, DO or an equivalent advanced degree in a science and/or health-related field required.
An expertise and a working knowledge of basic science research, biomedical science, and various areas of science.
Minimum of 7 years of professional work experience in the management of significant scientific projects or programs
3 years of direct supervisory experience, including hiring, training, managing, and evaluating the performance of direct reports
Proven accomplishments in managing complex projects, timelines, and budgets.
Association or nonprofit experience helpful, not required
Proven ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a dynamic, team-oriented environment
Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation, strategic planning, and management skills.
Strong multicultural awareness and sensitivity and ability to build cross-cultural consensus.
Project management and program development expertise.
Ability to prioritize competing deadlines and schedule work to ensure timely completion.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required (10-15%).
Multilingual fluency/literacy would be a plus.
