*Position Summary:*The University of North Carolina School of Medicine (SOM) seeks an innovative, dynamic, and collaborative leader to serve as the Associate Dean for Curricular Affairs for the Medical Doctorate (MD) program. This role requires a skilled and knowledgeable educator and leader with in-depth knowledge of medical education and experience leading educational efforts. A deep understanding of curricular development and assessment, educational technology resources, and organizational change management is critical. The Associate Dean will, in addition to day-to-day operational responsibility for the education-related functions Medical Doctorate program, lead in the development and implementation of an expanded vision of the medical doctorate curriculum across all campuses and sites.
The Associate Dean for Curricular Affairs (ADCA) will need to dedicate 60% FTE to this position and will report directly to the Senior Associate Dean for Medical Student Education. The ADCA will be appointed to one of the departments within the SOM and will engage within that department for the other 40% FTE. This position will work closely with the Associate and Assistant Deans in the Office of Medical Student Education (OMSE), as well as colleagues at UNC SOM and at campuses across the state to achieve our mission to train students to become highly competent and caring physicians.
*Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:*Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities associated with the delivery and/or management of student support functions, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and at least 1 year of relevant experience in substitution.
*Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:*The chosen candidate must have the credentials to qualify for appointment on the faculty of one of the departments of the School of Medicine.
Relevant experience in medical education and management, with a focus on curriculum development and working with medical students
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team
Deep and demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion in medical education
*Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:**Medical degree (MD), MD/PhD or PhD*
Commitment to evidence-based pedagogy and expertise in curriculum assessment and implementation
Detail-oriented and possessing excellent time management skills
Ability to inspire, mentor, guide, and encourage new ways of thinking
Familiarity with accreditation requirements and reporting; direct experience with LCME site visits
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work well with faculty in both academic and community settings
Familiarity with and an appreciation for the potential of active learning in medical education
Enthusiasm and appreciation for the distinct culture of UNC SOM
*Campus Security Authority Responsibilities:*This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
