This position contributes to Claremont McKenna College's campus environment that supports student development and success in all dimensions of student life including academic, personal, interpersonal, co-curricular, and community. The Assistant Dean is tasked with developing and implementing programs supporting the CMC Dean of Students Office's (DOS) Student Development Framework with a special focus on the DOS socio-ecological inclusive well-being framework. The Assistant Dean also has significant responsibility for the DOS academic success and support initiatives including working with students as an academic coach and assisting with the [Romero Success Coaches](https://www.cmc.edu/dean-of-students/successcoaches) program.
*DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS*
Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean for Student Success, the Assistant Dean of Students for Academic Success and Well-being works both collaboratively and independently to perform the following essential duties and responsibilities in the categories of Student Development Framework, Student Academic Success, and Comprehensive Dean of Students Office:
Student Development Framework Responsibilities:

* Work collaboratively with the Associate Vice President & Dean of Students, and the Sr. Associate DOS on the implementation, assessment, and education of the Student Development Framework foundations including a) self-authorship theory, b) well-being framework, c) open inquiry, and d) executive function skills. The model evolves based on research findings.

* Provide program development consistent with the Student Development Framework and the inclusive model of Socio-Ecological Well-being, which incorporates constructs such as positive emotions, engagement, relationships, meaning and purpose, and accomplishment (PERMA scale), executive function skills, sense of belonging, healthy relationships, purpose & meaning, perspective taking, etc.

* Ensure that all programming decisions demonstrate a commitment to diversity, inclusion, anti-racism, and employ universal design principles

* Implement and support upstream initiatives related to multiple dimensions of inclusive student well-being; including development, implementation, and assessment of short and long-term programs that support students' well-being

* Work with students, faculty, and staff to create a campus culture that values self-authorship, well-being, open inquiry, and the acquisition of executive functioning skills (i.e. working memory, response inhibition, emotional control, attentional control, planning, organization, time management, goal setting and persistence, cognitive flexibility, and metacognition)

* Work with the other DOS professionals to develop a well-being coaching framework for the [Romero Success Coaches](https://www.cmc.edu/dean-of-students/successcoaches), a student peer-leader group

* Assist with the hiring and training of Romero Success Coaches and the development and implementation of student development workshop series and other programming

* Work closely with DOS staff, including residential life, student activities, the CARE Center, mental health and health promotion, to ensure programs meet the needs of CMC students; this includes supporting the work of health and well-being related student clubs, and partnering in the training of resident assistants, first-year guides, and other student leaders as needed to ensure they are prepared to support students' success

* Work collaboratively with the assistant dean of students for health promotion and student support, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) department of athletics, recreation, and physical education, and other staff members to develop collaborative well-being programs

* Create education and outreach materials for a range of modalities including email, internet, social media platforms, posters, handbooks, bulletin boards, etc.

* Provide outreach presentations to campus audiences to include students, athletic teams, faculty and staff, campus clubs and organizations, on the concepts of well-being, open inquiry, self-authorship, and executive functioning - the totality of student success and the interconnection of these elements.

Student Academic Success Responsibilities:

* Provide academic coaching and support to students, assisting them in evaluating their skill sets, acquiring new capacities to succeed in their scholarly work

* Meet with students who receive academic advisories or low grade notices (LGN)

* Advise and coach students in the development of their individual strategies for academic and personal success

* Communicate effectively and promptly with faculty regarding students' academic matters

* Work closely with the Sr. Assistant Dean for Mental Health and Health Promotion, CMS Athletic coaches, faculty advisors, and other CMC administrators as appropriate to support students in their CMC journey

* Connect students to campus and community resources, and educate and empower students to navigate their CMC experience

Comprehensive Dean of Students Staff Responsibilities:

* Contribute as a vital member of a collaborative, student-centered DOS professional team.

* Ensure that all programming decisions demonstrate a commitment to diversity, inclusion, anti-racism, and employ universal design principles

* Work collaboratively with The Claremont Colleges Consortium services and departments including, but not limited to: Student Health Services, Monsour Counseling Services, Macalister Center for Religious Activities, Office of Black Student Affairs (OBSA), Chicanx and Latinx Student Affairs (CLSA), the Queer Resource Center (QRC), Empowerment Center.

* Be a visible leader on campus, within the Consortium, and represent the College to external constituents, including prospective students, parents, and the general public in a manner that demonstrates personal and professional integrity and promotes the interests of Claremont McKenna College

* Record of productive, collegial working relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and parents.

*QUALIFICATION STANDARDS*
*EDUCATION:*
Master's degree in higher education or a related field. Applicants should demonstrate extensive knowledge of college students' well-being and student development, experience in program development, management and development of student leader cohorts, and experience in program assessment and data collection and analysis.
A minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience leading a successful, multifaceted outreach program, preferably in health and wellness in higher education
Experience with marketing, public relations and media experience is preferred.

A valid driver's license or equivalent means of reliable transportation to off-site meetings and events is required.

*HOURS:* The regular hours for this position are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours may vary and will include evening and weekend work due to needs of the College or department.
