Job DescriptionCome join SBM Life Science as a Scientist I to support our field location in Champaign, IL. This will be a full time at our field location in Champaign.

Plans, arranges, and conducts biology research to support approved research projects and local development on existing products. Additional responsibilities include:
- Stay abreast of all new technology in the appropriate biology discipline (entomology, weed science, fertility, plant pathology)
- Be a technical resource for the company
- Manage and optimize personal resources needed balancing work among all assigned projects
- Train sales and marketing colleagues in understanding complex biological test results
- Technical resource directing assigned biology work within the department
- Resource for project teams
- Conduct or direct all necessary R&D work needed to understand and advance projects
- Serve as a technical expert in SBM Life Science helping guide non-technical facets of the business (Sales and Marketing)
- Conceive, plan, and execute independent research to support the business by internal testing.
- Organize external Academic cooperator trials
- Identify and explain new product opportunities
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- BS degree is a scientific discipline (biology, entomology, weed science, plant pathology, etc) MS or PhD preferred
- 2 years of field experience in biology, entomology, weed science, plant pathology, etc required
- In depth knowledge of entomology, pest management, insect toxicology and insecticide mode-of-action.
- Must be willing to partner with other groups within the business. Willingness to function as part of a hands-on scientific team.
- Effective communicator and able to present data analysis comfortably
- Ability to travel for scientific conferences, trade shows, and meetings with collaborators.
- Ability to act as a resource for the R&D Team within the business and with external customers
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate within R&D and other business areas (Supply Chain, Sales, Marketing, Regulatory)
- Effective oral and written communicator. Will write label directions for use and assist in label submissions to the EPA and States. Will write technical bulletins to support Sales
- Must be able to understand and conduct statistical analysis
- Experience with ARM (data referencing system)
- Create reports in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Herbicides experience preferred
