Job DescriptionGENERAL SUMMARY
Reporting to the Dean of Arts & Health Sciences, the Adjunct Faculty in Arts & Health Sciences has the primary responsibilities of teaching disciplinary or interdisciplinary courses for the general education curriculum, in an online or hybrid format, capable of being fully delivered asynchronously or semi-synchronously to students in off-campus locations. This position is for the Spring 2022 semester, with the possibility of additional semester-long appointments, contingent on successful observations and division needs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS*
  1. Develop and teach 7- week and 14-week writing and literature courses such as: INT 2100 Integrative Seminar, themed around History of Civil Rights in the US, Health & Wellness, or Faith & Reason; ENG 2060 American literature; and/or SSC 4010 Agents of Social Change.   2. Design and archive all course materials online, in both the College's LMS and in the Division-wide shared cloud space, as maintained by the Dean of Arts & Health Sciences. A standard syllabus and some course materials will be provided by the division, but the faculty is expected to tailor the materials to fit the course SLOs, the needs of the students enrolled in the course, and the individual faculty's teaching methods and areas of expertise.
  3. Conform to best practices standards and guidelines, as set forth by, but not limited to, the AAC&U and other relevant discipline-specific professional societies.
  4. Maintain and keep visible all course materials for approximately three years.
  5. Respond to student questions and concerns in an appropriate format within 24 hours.


OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Adjunct Faculty are welcome, but not required, to attend College and Division faculty meetings and Professional Development opportunities as appropriate.


PREPARATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Minimum of a Master's degree from an accredited institution in an interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary field
  • Minimum of 2 semesters of college-level online teaching experience in Academic Writing, English, Composition, or interdisciplinary writing-intensive seminars
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to develop and deliver high-impact, engaging electronic course materials. Prior experience with the Brightspace LMS is required.
  • Ability to quickly and efficiently adapt to new online systems and procedures.
