The University of South Alabama (USA) invites applications for the position of Dean of the School of Computing. The School of Computing (SoC) was established in 1980 and offers undergraduate degree programs in computer science, information systems, information technology (all ABET-accredited), and health informatics; as well as a computer engineering specialization jointly administered with the College of Engineering. The School also offers a Master's of Science degree in Computer and Information Sciences and an interdisciplinary PhD in Computing. The SoC is focused on faculty that have a commitment to research, teaching excellence, and service to the community. The SoC houses the Center for Forensics, Information Technology, and Security (CFITS) which is dedicated to the collection and dissemination of information related to digital forensics and information technology assurance and security. The USA SoC is a designated [National Center of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity](https://www.nsa.gov/Academics/Centers-of-Academic-Excellence/)[(NCAE-C)](https://www.nsa.gov/Academics/Centers-of-Academic-Excellence/) by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). This designation was first awarded in 2011 and re-awarded in 2022. Additionally, the USA Technology & Research Park is a major economic development initiative that brings USA resources and the technology business community together in a single location to expand educational and research opportunities, as well as offer fresh growth prospects for businesses focusing on information technology, engineering and biomedicine.

Reporting to the Provost and Executive Vice President, the Dean will be responsible for the strategic, programmatic, and financial operations of the SoC. In collaboration with SoC faculty and staff, the Dean will shape the School's future and articulate and direct a compelling vision for the School that will inspire engagement, teaching excellence, and external financial support. The successful candidate will have an academic record meriting appointment as [full] professor and significant higher education administrative experience. The ideal candidate will have deep experience in at least one of the academic disciplines within the SoC and have demonstrated evidence of effective leadership in academic program administration. The successful candidate will also demonstrate a commitment to innovation, open communication, teamwork, interpersonal skills, fostering cultural diversity, and be strongly student- focused.
