Position Summary:

The Scientist/Sr. Scientist - Data Science - within the Technical Operations and Process Sciences (TOPS) division. This position will bring data science expertise and is leading a data science effort to help accelerate the development of transformative therapies targeting cancer and make a meaningful difference in people's lives. You will interact heavily with Lab Scientists, Business Partners, Data Analysts, and Data Engineers across our IT, Process Development, Manufacturing, Quality, and Product Supply teams. As a result, you will help us develop better manufacturing processes and drug products, deepen the understanding of our processes and products, culminating in optimal data-driven decisions.

To this end, the ideal candidate will be responsible for:
  • Supporting Chemical Process and Analytical Development group on its data needs
  • Prioritizing, designing, implementing, and delivering data solutions to the organization
  • Building a tactical and scalable data infrastructure with connectivity to key data sources
  • Continual management and support of data assets based on current and changing needs
  • Leverage Data Science approaches to support process understanding and quality assessment of small molecule drug/drug linker development.
  • Develop data visualization tools to support process understanding.
  • Conduct data analyses by leveraging a variety of traditional and modern analytics approaches (descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, projection, and prescriptive) to deliver data science solutions including investigations, trending, anomalies or deviations, root cause analyses, etc.
  • Conduct high level mapping of available data systems, including our unique data flow and pipeline requirements. Develop an overarching understanding of architectural needs.
  • Collaborates with IT, scientific SMEs and management, and software vendors, and partner companies to build data collection, analytics, and reporting systems.
  • Drives development of data model, novel systems, and technical solutions.
  • Identifies and presents core elements of technical issues to appropriate SMEs, along with solutions for evaluation.
  • For Scientist level, the candidate should have the ability to lead projects, perform technical execution independently, facilitate communications, and provide periodic updates to project stakeholders, customers, and management.
  • For Senior Scientist level, the candidate should have the ability to lead projects, perform technical execution independently, facilitate communications, and provide periodic updates to project stakeholders, customers, and management; furthermore, having the capability to develop comprehensive and executable plans for projects, involving deliverables from multiple departments and outside vendors and/or partners.
  • Authors protocols, reports, SOPs, and other supporting documents. May consult with Quality or technical departments to ensure broad system and procedure alignment.
  • Work on various data mining to help generate useful insights from data to assist decision making.

Required Qualifications:
  • PhD or master's degree in data science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related field
  • PhD preferred and Master required
  • Scientist: minimum of 0-3 years of relevant data analytics hands-on experience for candidates with PhD and 8+ years for master's degree
  • Sr. Scientist: minimum of 3+ years of relevant data analytics hands-on experience for candidates with PhD and 11+ years for master's degree.
  • Having work experience or background knowledge in R&D of small molecule drug development.
  • An effective communicator able to bridge the relationship between chemical sciences and information technology.
  • Experience with enterprise-level data analyses, automation, and providing data-focused system integration solutions.
  • Experience architecting data integrations and running data flows to support complex data initiatives.
  • Proficient in the use of programming languages such as Python and R.
  • Recommend and apply state-of-the-art analytical techniques to various data sets.
  • Experience with relational database systems and SQL language.
  • Thorough understanding of current state and future trends in data integration, data warehouse, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience with data visualization software and analytics tools such as Power BI, R (ggplot), Python (Matplotlib, Plotly, Altair), D3.js.
  • Excellent influencing and networking skills paired with stakeholder management experience in a multi-layered global environment.
  • Strong project management and technical leadership skills with an enthusiasm for working in an interdisciplinary team environment.
  • Familiarity with CMC and drug development process.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Computational Chemistry with understanding of chemical synthesis
  • Familiarity with databases (Ex. MySQL, MongoDB, SQL), web servers (Ex. Apache) and UI/UX design
