Position Summary

The Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver (DU) invites applications for one tenure-track position at the Associate or Full rank in the Department of Business Information & Analytics starting September 1, 2023.

The Department of Business Information and Analytics (BIA) merges the disciplines of Information Systems, Statistics, and Operations Research into a department focusing on the key needs of today's organizations to create, manage and understand the wealth of information they possess. The Department of BIA offers an MS in Business Analytics, an undergraduate major in business analytics, and minors in statistics and business analytics. Class sizes for the Department of Business Analytics typically range from 15 to 33. The Department currently has nine full-time tenure track faculty and nine teaching and professional faculty (https://daniels.du.edu/business-information-analytics/faculty-staff/). Building on a legacy of leadership and first-mover advantage, the Department offers rigorous academic instruction, enjoys strong industry support, and is home to CAID (the Center for Analytics and Innovation with Data, https://daniels.du.edu/caid/).

Essential Functions

Research and Scholarship: The candidate should have a current publication record that demonstrates SA (Scholarly Academic) standing for AACSB requirements and standing as an associate or full professor in the College. This includes a publication record and current research stream related to business analytics, information systems, operations research, or statistics with publications in FT-50 journals, the UT Dallas list, or journals of similar quality in other disciplines.

Teaching: DU follows the quarter system, with three, 10-week long academic terms in Fall (early September-late November), Winter (January-mid March), and Spring (Late March-first week of June). The Associate or Full Professor in the Department of BIA is expected to teach six courses throughout the academic year which may include fall, winter, and spring quarters. Research-active faculty, regardless of rank, can apply to receive a course release and summer support. Options for distributing or stacking courses across or within quarters are available depending on the department's teaching schedule.

Teaching may include subjects such as business statistics, databases, predictive analytics, data mining and visualization, Python programming, project management, simulation, advanced data management platforms (AWS, Azure, etc.), and/or optimization. Teaching responsibilities may include both undergraduate and graduate level courses using traditional, hybrid, hyflex, and online delivery methods taught during the day, night, or weekend. There may also be opportunities to teach during the 10-week summer quarter and/or courses in the online MBA Program for additional compensation.

Professors are expected to attend all scheduled class sessions and to be involved in curriculum and pedagogy development, creating learning objectives, syllabi creation and management, timely and consistent grading, classroom management, student meetings and mentoring, testing/quizzes, instruction assessment, and professional development in educational topics. Teachers are also expected to be responsive in student communications.

Service: Faculty are expected to participate in the academic life of the Department of BIA and Daniels College faculty meetings, assurance of learning, curriculum development, and the informal advising of students. Associate and Full Professors are also expected to mentor junior faculty.

  • Exceptional abilities in scholarly activities as required by the Department/College and position.

Required Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate in Information Systems, Business Analytics, Statistics, Operations Research, Computer Science, Data Science, or related field.
  • Well-established record for research, teaching, and service as appropriate to the level of Associate or Full Professor as assessed by the College's Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure (APT) committee.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate in Information Systems, Business Analytics, Statistics, Operations Research or related field from an AACSB or EQUIS-accredited institution.
  • Experience teaching at an AACSB accredited institution with excellent teaching evaluations.
  • Proven track record for high-caliber research for the area(s) of expertise (e.g., UT Dallas and Financial Times 50 or journals of similar quality).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of a variety of teaching methods and/or curricular perspectives to effectively engage diverse populations and learning styles.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with students from diverse backgrounds and/or activities that promote diversity and equal opportunity (examples include, but are not limited to, developing strategies for the educational or professional advancement of students in underrepresented groups or activities such as recruitment, retention, and mentoring/advising of underrepresented students or new faculty.)

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is UC.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $180,000-$195,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate's sex or any other protected status.
