Summary of Position: The Associate Dean assists the Dean in advancing the vision and in providing academic leadership in order to achieve high standards of excellence. The associate dean ensures continuous quality improvement in both instruction and services with measurable outcomes for coworkers and students. The Associate Dean promotes a collaborative, communicative working environment with other departments to promote the College's Mission and Vision and to provide a positive learning environment. The Associate Dean networks and builds relationships with all stakeholders to ensure excellence in faculty development and instructional delivery, while working within budget parameters. This position requires a flex schedule which may include occasional evenings and weekends. Associate Deans work to promote social justice within their division and the larger academic institution. Associate Deans support faculty development to encourage student learning and support social justice within the classroom utilizing Western's Educations Justice Framework of trauma informed, poverty informed, and culturally responsive teaching.
This position currently oversees but is not limited to the following programs:
  • Surgical Technology
  • Respiratory Therapy
  • Medical Assistant
  • Health Information Technology/Coding

Essential Functions

1. Maintain and uphold the College values of Learning, Excellence, Accountability, Diversity, Student Success, Teamwork, Integrity, and Respect. Regular attendance is required.
2. Complete all required College training and responsible for maintaining the skills necessary to complete the essential functions of the position as defined by the department.
3. Student Success if the cornerstone of Western's culture and the college may assign employees as needed to other areas or additional duties to foster this success.
4. Strategic planning - Supporting Action/Task May Include:
  • Assist with annual division and/or dept. planning
  • Assist with annual master planning
  • Collection and analysis of student success data
  • May develop internal and external marketing program initiatives
  • Develop and manage operational and capital budget in collaboration with the Dean
  • Scheduling
5. Staff Supervision - Supporting Action/Task May Include:
  • Hire and schedule assigned faculty and staff
  • Provide supervision and direction to assigned faculty and staff
  • Meet with faculty and staff to discuss work-related issues and activities
  • Recommend personnel actions
  • Address and implement disciplinary action if necessary
  • Manage vacation and leave time
  • Complete employee success plans
  • Attend and plan advisory meetings
  • Ensure compliance with college curriculum and delivery standards
6. Student Support - Supporting Action/Task May Include:
  • Meet with and assist students as needed to support student success and retention
  • Develop, design, and deploy student centered learning practices (specific to the Associate Dean of Learner Support & Transition)
  • Coordinate student readiness for online learning and academic technology. (This is specific to the Associate Dean of Academic Excellence & Development)
  • Academic appeals
  • Orientations
  • Collaborate and consult with Retention Advisors to support student success
7. Manage internal/external customer relations - Supporting Action/Task May Include:
  • Collaborate and coordinate with internal/external stakeholders to ensure needs, services and program goals are being met including distance education
  • Collaborate with internal staff in the design and delivery of all faculty professional development offerings and coordinate the work of faculty development coaches. (This is specific to the Associate Dean of Academic Excellence & Development)
  • Lead/participate on college, statewide, program advisory and community committees
8. Curriculum development - Supporting Actions May Include:
  • Coordinate with faculty and directs the review and implementation of program curricula

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in related field required OR
  • Bachelor's degree required in related field with a willingness to obtain a Master's degree within 5 years required
  • 3 years teaching experience
  • 3 years previous healthcare experience required

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Doctoral degree
  • Management experience
  • Experience leading DEI initiatives

Starting annual salary range based on education and experience: $77,343 - $100,547
