Position Overview
The Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) Program in the Department of Psychology
invites applications for a non-tenure-track, open-ended term, Assistant Professor of Practice
starting in Academic Year 2023-24. The successful candidate should demonstrate excellence
in teaching a range of courses in the counseling discipline including but not limited to research
and evaluation, evaluation and treatment of addictions, psychological assessment, and/or
career and college counseling.
Position Summary
The Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) Program at Merrimack College in the
Psychology Department invites applications for a non-tenure-track, open-ended, Assistant
Professor of Practice, 9-month position beginning fall 2023. An earned doctorate in Counselor
Education, Counseling Psychology or a closely related field is required.
As an Assistant Professor of Practice (open-ended, NTT), the successful candidate will be
responsible for providing formal classroom instruction in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling
program with primary duties being effective delivery of instructional material and course
management (e.g., assessments, grading, etc.), advising and mentoring of graduate students,
and involvement in CMHC programmatic tasks. The successful candidate should demonstrate
the experience or ability to teach a range of courses in the counseling discipline including but
not limited to: Research and Evaluation, Evaluation & Treatment of Addictions, Psychological
Assessment, and/or Career & College Counseling. CMHC courses are taught in the evening
after 4:00 pm.
Primary Responsibilities
The NTT faculty would teach a 12-credit/contact hours per semester during the academic year
in addition to advising and mentoring students and completing CMHC programmatic tasks
which would meet the required typically four course sections per semester. Courses taught
during the 6-week Summer I session may be counted within overall teaching load during the
academic year.
Qualifications
The candidate should meet the following qualifications: (a) An earned doctorate (Ph.D., Psy.D.,
or Ed.D.) in Counseling, Counselor Education, Counseling Psychology or a related doctoral
degree is required, (b) at least 1 year of experience teaching (preferably graduate courses), (c)
experience in clinical supervision and training, (d) and demonstrated commitment to infusing
multicultural content and social justice principles in curriculum and training are highly preferred.
It is preferred that the candidate is license eligible or holds licensure as a mental health
counselor and/or a psychologist in the state of Massachusetts, in the New England region, or
transferrable to the area with a minimum of 3 years of clinical practice experience in the field.
Strong verbal/written communication skills are essential. Additionally, the ability to foster an
environment that values diversity, equity and inclusion is expected of all Merrimack community
members.

Counseling (CMHC) represents a dynamic, innovative, and growth-oriented training program

The study of liberal arts is at the heart of Merrimack's curriculum. The School of Liberal Arts
encompasses the humanities and social sciences, each of which include a range of disciplines
distinguished by their focus of inquiry and by their perspectives and methodologies. Students
