Job Summary
This position will teach American Sign language, Interpreting and/or other related courses for the Deaf Studies and Interpreting programs as assigned by the Program Director(s). In this position you may also be responsible for supervising adjunct faculty, training and support, student advisement and outreach, program coordination and development, tracking information and statistics, scheduling assistance, establishing and fostering community and institutional relationships, seeking out and applying for grant funding, and Program Advisory Committee work.

This position is for Spring 2023.

Essential Functions
Supervise and instruct a diverse population of students in a classroom and/or lab settings; deliver class instruction using collaborative, communicative, active learning, and innovative teaching methods, including instructional technology

Develop syllabi/course outline, course materials and assessment tools

Evaluate knowledge of subject matter taught and monitor students' scholastic records; prepare and grade exams, papers, and assignments

Meet with students one hour per day during office hours; work with students outside of class; keep department and college hours of accountability

Use computers for communication and research; meet deadlines; participate in committee, department, college and district meetings, projects, and activities

Develop and enhance knowledge of subject matter taught and individual training skills required to remain current with new trends and developments in the field and to promote the scholarship of teaching and learning through attendance at conferences, courses, seminars and/or workshops

Minimum Qualifications
1. A master's degree in the teaching field, or a master's degree in any field and 18 graduate hours in the field, OR

A bachelor's degree and three years of work experience in the field, OR

Five years of work experience in the field

2. EDU 250 - Teaching and Learning in the Community College or equivalent must be completed within two years of date of hire.

Desired Qualifications
1. Membership in RID, BEI, ASLTA or membership of other interpreting-related organization(s)
2. One or more valid certifications from the following organizations: BEI, RID, ASLTA
3. Master's degree in Sign Language Education or ASL/English Interpreting at post-secondary level
4. Experience in program management, curriculum development, outreach, and recruitment in areas of ASL and/or interpreting preferred
5. Native or near-native proficiency in American Sign Language with demonstrated ability to converse fluently in high level professional and academic conversation in ASL required
6. Three (3) years of experience teaching American Sign Language and/or ASL/English interpreting at the postsecondary level
7. Experience with educational technology/software such as Canvas, GoReact, Student Information Systems, or similar systems
8. Strong knowledge of American Sign Language linguistics, Deaf Culture, and diversity within the Deaf community; theories and philosophy of interpreting
9. Experience in program, course, or academic assessment
10. Experience in teaching online courses

May be required to teach evening, weekend and/or online classes
May be required to lift objects up to 25 lbs
Occasional local travel required
Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D driver's license is required; must meet minimum standards regarding driving
May be required to sit for a prolonged period of time; viewing a computer monitor
