The University of Adelaide is seeking a dynamic individual with expertise in fields of cancer biology and cancer-on-a-chip. It is a fantastic opportunity for an early-career researcher to enter an academic career pathway. Our new state of the art laboratory will enable high quality research to be conducted to meet the next generation of challenges like the development of novel cancer nanomedicines.

The primary purpose of the position is to develop tumor-on-chip and cancer-on-chip models for drug screening, as part of an NHMRC Leadership Fellow project in Prof. Chun-Xia Zhao's lab. We are looking for an ambitious and creative postdoctoral researcher with a strong drive and motivation to address current challenges in the interdisciplinary research field of organs-on-chip

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Design and fabrication of tumor-on-chip (ToC) models using cell lines, primary cells or patient samples
  • Optimisation of the culturing condition and characterisation of the ToC model
  • Validation of ToC models using different in vitro/in vivo assays or clinical data and drug evaluation using the ToC model developed
  • Interact with internal and external collaborators
  • Publish scholarly and high-level research papers
  • Provide laboratory leadership and supervision of honours and postgraduate students
  • Work with colleagues at UofA and externally in the development of new joint research projects including applications for external funding
  • Lead a research team in ToC model and drug screening

To be successful you will need:
  • A PhD in biology, biomedical Engineering, medicine or related fields.
  • Demonstrated track record of high quality research related to in vitro and in vivo cancer models, microfluidic systems, organ-on-chip research
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in cancer biology, tumor microenvironment, 3D imaging, culture optimisation, genotypic characterisation, phenotype evaluation and studies of cell growth and proliferation
  • Demonstrated experience in in vivo animal studies, drug evaluation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to contribute to the research program; designing experiments, analysing data and presenting data for publication or oral presentation
