Hours Part-time, include requirement and total hours per week - as needed, not to exceed 19.5 hours per week

Summary of Position

Adjunct faculty to teach culinary and/or hospitality courses as prescribed by institutional policies and perform operational duties within the respective areas of responsibilities of the TDCJ Restaurant Operations Certificate Program.

Minimum Required Education

Associates Degree from a nationally, regionally, or identified at the state level accredited institution of higher education in food service management or related field required, prefer Bachelor's Degree.

Valid National Restaurant Association ServSafe certificate required.

Must hold or obtain a valid county food worker's card and, within one year, obtain professional certification as a condition of employment.

Minimum Required Experience

Minimum 3 years of culinary experience is required.

Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience in culinary or hospitality field preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Must have knowledge of food production, sanitation, and supervision.

Demonstrated knowledge in subject matter being taught; ability to communicate effectively with students in a clear manner; ability to give academic and vocational guidance to students as needed.

Must have a proficiency to communicate in oral and written English.

Must be neat in appearance and exhibit positive professional attitude.

Demonstrated managerial skills.

Must be well-grounded in the use of computer technology.

Must possess, depending on course instruction, some of the following skills and knowledge; basic food preparation, preparation and demonstration of cold buffets, sauces, cake decorating, salt dough sculpture, table arrangement and work with sugar & chocolate art, nutrition, and food service operations.

Must be willing to work flexible and non-standard hours and work under exacting conditions.
