Job Description

Overview of the Broad CRSP Laboratory

The Clinical Research Sequencing Platform (CRSP) is a CLIA and CAP-accredited clinical laboratory embedded within the Broad's Genomics Platform which provides comprehensive genomic services to the scientific community. The Genomics Platform is located in Cambridge MA and runs over 55 sequencing machines generating high-throughput genomes, exomes, transcriptomes, microbiomes as well as supporting high-throughput genomic arrays and SARS-CoV-2 testing. The lab works closely with the Broad's Data Sciences Platform of more than 150 software engineers, computational biologists and supporting staff charged with developing software and infrastructure. The lab also works closely with the Gerstner Center for Cancer Diagnostics and the Cancer Genome Analysis groups within the institution to evaluate and where appropriate validate cutting edge methods for cancer diagnostics or MRD tracking. This position will work with other members of the CRSP and Translational Analysis Group (TAG) teams, which include analysts, clinicians/providers, computational biologists, software engineers, senior laboratory personnel and project managers.

Job Description

The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard is seeking an Assistant or Associate Clinical Laboratory Director. The position will be full-time, split roughly half-time in CRSP and half-time in ClinGen. Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Provide oversight and ongoing contributions to clinical molecular test development
  • play a role in large-scale genomics and informatics to develop and implement transformative analytical pipelines to support genomic diagnostics and clinical trials
  • Clinical signout of molecular diagnostic test results
  • Leadership role in the Clinical Genome Resource (ClinGen)
  • Oversee a biocuration team working with expert panels within ClinGen to determine the clinical validity of gene-disease relationships and the pathogenicity of variation
  • Contribute to ongoing standards development and infrastructure support as ClinGen grows
  • This role will report jointly to Heidi Rehm and Niall Lennon.

Requirements

The successful candidate is expected to hold a PhD and/or MD and be ABMGG board-certified in Clinical Molecular Genetics or Laboratory Genetics and Genomics with least 5 years experience post PhD spanning the following areas:
  • Clinical laboratory experience in clinical test development and next generation sequencing
  • Experience in germline genetic and genomic test analysis for rare disease diagnosis
  • Gene-disease validity and variant pathogenicity classification
  • Leadership skills in training and managing biocurators
