VISITING ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF COMMUNICATION STUDIES

The Department of Communication Studies and Theatre seeks a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor beginning August 2023.

Successful candidates will have a Ph.D. in Communication or a related field. Preference will be given to candidates with an expertise in media studies or message design strategy, and college-level teaching experience.

Responsibilities include teaching courses in media technology, public relations, digital storytelling, and/or research methods. This position includes the possibility of teaching one to two courses in our one-year, online, professional Masters in Digital Media Strategies program. All instructors in the department are also expected to teach our first-year oral communication general education course. The successful candidate will show a commitment to teaching and mentoring a diverse student population within a liberal arts context and will be willing to participate in the College's First Year Seminar and General Education programs. The teaching load is 21 semester credits per year (4-3 distribution). Candidates who are ABD will be considered if their degree is expected to be conferred by August 1, 2023.

GENERAL INFORMATION: Bridgewater College was founded in 1880 as the first coeducational college in Virginia. Bridgewater offers bachelor's degrees in approximately 60 majors and minors, along with four graduate programs, pre-professional programs such as medicine and law, and teacher licensure. The College is a member of NCAA Division III and the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, with 23 intercollegiate athletic teams. The vibrant residential campus is located in the town of Bridgewater, Virginia, near the city of Harrisonburg in the center of the Shenandoah Valley. Excellent school systems, healthy business environment, numerous arts and cultural events, one of the state's lowest crime rates, and a variety of outdoor opportunities and historic attractions draw many to the region.
