Within the Analytical Research and Development, Expert Scientist, in Physical & Chemical Analytics group, will serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) in LC-MS and biophysical analyses of mRNA and protein antigens. The scientist will be responsible for characterizing antigens and their interactions using mass spectrometry and an array of biophysical and traditional protein chemistry tools. This role is focused on providing a structure-function understanding to support assay development activities for all stages of vaccine development. The role will also provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career in science and people management, these responsibilities include some of the following:

  • Lead the LC-MS platform by ensuring state-of-the art mass spectrometry equipment and software are being used and evaluated in a continuous improvement manner
  • Provide support to junior scientists and menoer them for their technical development and implementation of innovative solutions for new applicationsin mass spectrometry.
  • Ensure that mass spectrometers settings are harmonized and maintained for intended use and that the instruments are calibrated accordingly
  • Present LC-MS data in Analytical Sub-Team (AST) meetings and cross-function meetings
  • Assist lab head in recruiting junior scientists
  • Write characterization report or provide data as requested by Aalytical Project lead (APL)


Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills:
  • PhD or Master's degree with specialization in Mass Spectrometry
  • At least 6+ years of experience in industry/academic (pharmaceutical or biotech) setting working on characterizing diverse molecules (proteins, carbohydrates, nucleotides) by mass spectroscopy and spectrophotometry
  • Two or more years of experience with analytical development for vaccine/ biotherapeutic candidates.
  • Two or more years of experience working in protein and nucleic acid chemistry and strong laboratory skills
  • Two or more years of hands-experience with qualitative and quantitative characterization of proteins and nucleotides using MS platform (Glycan profiling, peptide mapping, intact mass, 5' capping and 3' PolyA assays).


Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
  • Familiarity with HDX for higher order structure determination, epitope / paratope mapping.
  • Knowledge and experience with Quality by Design, Process Analytical Technology, CMC, regulatory filling, and managing CMC program
  • Experience with, liquid handling systems, and robotic automation
