Overview:

The Staff Research Associate II (SRA II) will contribute, as part of the HTS (high throughput screening) team, to screening chemical compounds from both chemical libraries and medicinal chemistry synthesis to identify active drug candidates (hits or leads) leading to the discovery and development of treatments and cures for neurodegenerative diseases.

The SRA is responsible for screening of small molecules using cell-, biochemical-, and other screening-based assays, and for converting assays to a HTS format. The HTS team is a key part of the overall multidisciplinary Drug Discovery research effort whose research interests span many fields of scientific research and report to the Team Leader.

Responsibilities:
  • Organize and run a weekly high throughput screen on compounds from the IND chemical library. Analyze results and report them to the team
  • Organize and run weekly assays on analogs synthesized by the medicinal chemistry team. Work closely with the chemists to coordinate the assay and compound acquisition. Analyze results and report them to the team.
  • Support the effective operation of instruments within the HTS lab. Troubleshoot and program new protocols when necessary
  • Maintain a high-quality electronic laboratory notebook and keep it up to date
  • Determine accuracy of analysis algorithms and optimize when needed for new cellular assays
  • Support other Drug Discovery research when possible, such as homogenization or PTA precipitation

Requirements:
  • B.S. degree in Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology or related science
  • One or more years of recent, directly related work experience following degree completion, utilizing the techniques or methods required by the position, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational and record keeping skills
  • Ability to work as an effective and efficient team member, and to participate in team meetings and planning
  • Enthusiasm, positive outlook, collegiality, and scientific curiosity


Preferred Requirements:
  • BSL 2/3 approved (Bio Secure Lab)
  • Mammalian cell culture experience
  • Western Blot analysis
