Oglethorpe University, a small liberal arts college in metropolitan Atlanta, seeks to hire a Tenure track Assistant Professor of Chemistry to begin in July 2023. Responsibilities include teaching, service to the university, and supporting an undergraduate research program. The new hire will teach introductory level courses (general chemistry and/or organic chemistry) in addition to upper-level courses in their area of expertise. Candidates will also be expected to teach in Science and Human Nature, an interdisciplinary course for non majors that serves as the final class of our unique CORE general education program. We welcome applicants with experience in all subdisciplines of chemistry. Chemistry faculty at Oglethorpe teach multiple courses across the curriculum so applicants with experience in multiple subdisciplines will be given priority. Successful applicants will have experience with undergraduate teaching, a commitment to inclusive pedagogy, and familiarity with innovative teaching methods, such as active learning, CURE projects, and service learning.

Oglethorpe is committed to fostering a campus community and intellectual environment that recruits and maintains diverse faculty and staff, promotes a culture of respect for diverse experiences and perspectives, and understands and addresses the role of inequality in shaping our individual and collective identities. We value faculty mentorship and support faculty teaching, research, and development through the Office of the Provost which works closely with the VP of DEI. The university currently enrolls a diverse population of nearly 1,500 students who represent more than 30 states and 30 countries. More than half of Oglethorpes students identify as persons of color and 40 percent are the first in their families to attend college. Candidates from historically excluded groups, whose work furthers the institutions diversity, equity, and inclusion goals, and who bring varied life experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply.

Founded in 1835, Oglethorpe is a small, private university located on a historic 100 acre campus in metro Atlanta. Our liberal arts mission serves a diverse student body of 1,495 undergraduates, representing more than 30 states and 30 countries.
