The University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music invites applications for a position as Assistant Professor of Practice in Choral and Sacred Music). This is a full-time, non-tenure track (RTPC), benefits-eligible appointment for an initial period of three years. Renewal beyond the initial three-year period of appointment is possible, at the discretion of the Thornton Dean. The appointment begins August 16, 2023.

As part of the Thornton School of Music's Classical Division, the Department of Choral and Sacred Music offers the following degrees: D.M.A. in choral music, D.M.A. in sacred music, M.M. in choral music, M.M. in sacred music, B.M. in choral music, and academic minors in choral music for D.M.A. students in all music disciplines at Thornton.

Minimum Requirements and Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates must have a completed D.M.A., Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in Choral Music, Sacred Music, or related field. Applicants nearing completion of the doctorate may be considered. For appointment, the degree must be conferred by July 31, 2023.

Ideal candidates for this position are dynamic teachers, mentors, and outstanding scholars or scholar-performers who are committed to making significant, ongoing contributions to the choral profession.

Duties:

Principal duties will include the following:

Maintain an active professional profile

Teach courses in choral literature, choral development, conducting, and additional topics depending on the candidate's expertise

Participate in dissertation advising

Participate in service and committee work for the Department and the Thornton School of Music
