Description: The School of Earth Sciences (SES) seeks a geodesist who will complement existing faculty in its Division of Geodetic Science (DGS, i.e., participate in research, teaching and service missions of the DGS). We seek a mathematical or computational geodesist who is extending the theories of geodesy and developing novel applications of geodesy. Technical specialties of interest include physical geodesy, adjustment theory, inertial geodesy, quantum/relativistic geodesy, and satellite geodesy. The successful candidate will be required to teach several advanced courses in our graduate program, which include courses in physical geodesy, inertial geodesy, spectral analysis on spheres and ellipsoids, and intermediate and advanced adjustment computations. Ideally, the candidate will extend our graduate catalog to incorporate new topics. We are interested in candidates with a track record in research of and teaching of geodetic science as described above; they can also have additional interdisciplinary research (e.g., using geodesy to study the atmosphere, climate change, hydrology, cryosphere, sea level and oceanography, etc.). There will also be opportunities for joint research involving areas of Earth science (e.g., within SES, in collaboration with the Byrd Polar and Climate Research Center or the Global Water Institute) as well as areas of mathematics, artificial intelligence, and "Big Data".
Qualifications: Review of applications will begin after January 9, 2023 and the position will remain open until filled. The successful applicant must have a Ph.D. in geodesy or a relevant field by the start of the appointment. "All But Degrees" are welcome to apply. Evidence of a strong research trajectory and teaching experience is desired.
