The Hood College Department of Nursing invites applications for a full-time tenure track or non-tenure track position in the Public Health program beginning August 2022. The successful candidate will have a DrPH or Ph.D. in Public Health or related public health field and will foster the implementation of the college's new Bachelor of Arts program in Public Health. Under the general direction of the Public Health Program Director, the candidate will deliver excellent instruction in the program, advise students, support accreditation activities, build and nurture community partnerships, manage the capstone (field) experience, and engage in professional scholarship, service, and research that aligns with the program's vision and mission.

As a faculty member, the candidate is responsible for developing courses that provide experiential learning activities, teaching courses, utilizing technological platforms for learning resources, advising and mentoring students, and evaluating student progress. Scholarship and service consistent with departmental standards is also expected. As assistant professor and field director, the candidate will also be expected to champion the program's identity on campus and in the region by building and supporting a strong regional network of academic, community, corporate, and healthcare partners in the field of public health. The candidate must exhibit a strong commitment to teaching public health in a liberal arts setting, who is passionate about high-impact learning experiences, and who values diversity, equity and inclusion in all that they do.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

* Foster relationships in support of field placement for the capstone (service- learning) experience.
* Develop and instruct public health course(s) in a face-to-face modality (unless otherwise advised to provide online instruction).
* Design and prepare course plans and
* Produce deliverables as specified by the program
* Utilize professional communication to engage with
* Monitor and record classroom
* Grade deliverables and post grades in a timely manner in the learning management system (e.g., Blackboard) within one-week of student's
* Assist students with comprehension of course
* Calculate and post midterm and final grades on or before the
* Present and instruct material in accordance with syllabus per Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) guidance.
* Provide attention to detail in the recording of grades and
* Monitor student progress on a consistent
* Generate academic alerts as necessary for students that may need additional wraparound services to foster academic success.
* Tutor per availability for student one-on-one session(s) as
* Collaborate with the academic team to develop and implement active learning
* Attend faculty and team meetings as
* Support process evaluation to assess learning outcomes (live time).
* Synergize with all colleagues in a positive manner to provide stellar student service and teaching excellence.

Field Director (45%)

* Build partnerships with agencies that focus on Public Health initiatives and service-learning experiences for both student and community capacity-building.
* Establish a formal memorandum of agreement (MOU) with each agency partner for field placement as a requirement of the capstone experience.
* Process all MOU's through the proper channels at Hood College in a timely manner prior to the service period.
* Maintain a catalog of MOU's and provide necessary revisions per the agreement terms as an ongoing process for optimal operations.
* Create capstone experience guidance documents and protocol for the program accreditation per CEPH.
* Establish community engagement initiatives in support of community partner recruitment.
* Develop and update service-learning database, forms, record-keeping, and review weekly activities for appropriateness of program curriculum.
* Liaise as the point of contact relevant to all service-learning experiences.
* Manage field experience activities and create the necessary infrastructure to support the program and academic success for learners.

Teaching (45%)

* Teach 21 credits per year (seven 3-credit courses) for each academic year (fall and spring semesters.
* Demonstrate an ability/potential for teaching excellence and innovation in public health.
* Plan courses, write syllabi and design assignments for each course to meet Hood College and departmental curriculum requirements and assessment needs, utilizing a variety of teaching techniques (pedagogy).
* Present lectures, and supervise class activities, on topics appropriate to the course material.
* Instruct students in course content and provide learning opportunities in and out of the classroom to achieve course objectives.
* Critique student performance on various assignments to measure the quality of learning, to facilitate skill building, to challenge students' assumptions, and to reinforce concepts, which must include practical application of new skills.
* Maintain weekly office hours.
* Work with student to address problems and resolve issues.
* Determine and report grades for assignments and for overall achievement in class.
* Provide appropriate documentation of grades to students and department as appropriate.
* Utilize digital and electronic platforms such as Blackboard and Chalk & Wire in instruction, record-keeping, data collection, and assessment.
* Other job-related duties as assigned.

Scholarship/Research (5%)

* Maintain an active program of scholarly research, writing, and appropriate publication in the field of public health, ideally involving students.
* Present research findings and other academic papers at national or professional conferences and in professional publications, consistent with Nursing Department/Public Health program expectations.

Service (5%)

* Serve as advisor for undergraduate PH students as assigned.
* Support and participate in departmental and college committees, as well as departmental meetings.
* Be an active and engaged citizen of the department and college.
* Support and participate in recruitment events.

Education and/or Experience

Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Public Health, Master's degree earned (M.P.H.), or DrPH/Ph.D. (preferred). Must have teaching experience and/or public health practitioner experience; both teaching and practice experience are preferred. Previous experience with CEPH accreditation preferred or some prior knowledge.

Language Skills

Strong written and oral command of the English language essential. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals in the English language with clearly organized thoughts using proper sentence construction, punctuation and grammar. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from faculty, staff, students, clients, and the general public.
