Salary Range - Commensurate with experience within ranks established by the CSU Salary Schedule.
The Lurie College of Education Department of Special Education at San José State University, prepares professionals to be effective educators, leaders in the field, and lifelong learners. We do this in collaboration with other departments and with our community partners. Our faculty promote equity and excellence in our curricula and infuse nationally endorsed evidence-based practices in their instruction.
Our graduates are advocates for children and leave our program with the knowledge and skills necessary to creatively meet the needs of a variety of student learners. They work as change agents in local schools, ensuring students with diverse learning needs have full access to the general curriculum to achieve their very best.
Our department is accepting applications for a full-time lecturer to start in Fall 2023.
Required Qualifications
Minimum of a Master's degree in Special Education or related field with an Education Specialist credential in Mild Moderate Support Needs or equivalent
Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in diverse PK-12 special education settings including experience teaching in historically marginalized communities with students who may have experienced gaps in equitable access to resources
Significant leadership experience in the field of special education in PK-12.
Ability to teach on the SJSU campus in late afternoon and evening hours as needed by the department
Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a socially and economically diverse student population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparable experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Priority will be given to candidates who possess one or more of the following:
PhD / EdD in Special Education or related field
5 years of teaching experience in socially, economically, and linguistically diverse PK-12 special education settings, California schools preferred
Experience teaching bilingual students, supporting both their home language(s) and English development
College or university teaching experience in special education teacher preparation programs serving a socially and economically diverse population of preservice candidates including candidates from underrepresented groups
Experience supervising, mentoring, and/or coaching Education Specialists in socially, economically, and linguistically diverse classroom settings
Experience working with a strong pedagogical understanding of instructional strategies to support multilingual learners
Experience with caseload management, special education assessments, California Curriculum Frameworks, and Universal Design for Learning
