Job DescriptionThe Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) graduate program in the Department of Psychology and Counseling at Georgian Court University (GCU) is seeking an energetic and motivated professional to join our department for the Fall 2022 semester. This is a full-time position with either a tenure-track or a non-tenure-track option. The tenure-track option can be at the assistant or associate professor rank. The non-tenure-track option is at the clinical lecturer rank. The primary assignment for this full-time position is to our ABA graduate program.
Please consider the following when deciding which position you would like to apply for. Applicants with a desire to begin a traditional academic career with scholarship expectations are encouraged to apply for the assistant professor position. Applicants with full-time faculty experience, scholarship commensurate with appointment to the associate professor rank (i.e., juried publications), and a desire to continue to produce scholarship are encouraged to apply for appointment at the associate level. Applicants with strong clinical skills, an active clinical practice, and a desire to work in an academic environment without the expectation of scholarship production are encouraged to apply for the clinical lecturer position. Appointment to the tenure-track or non-tenure track position includes an expectation to eventually assume program leadership. Mentorship will be provided by the current department and program leadership.

Assistant or Associate Professor

Primary teaching responsibilities for this position will include teaching 24 credits per academic year (12 cr. fall & 12 cr. spring) with the candidate's primary teaching load in the ABA graduate program. Four 3-credit courses per semester is the standard teaching load at GCU for tenure-track faculty. Any remaining coursework outside of the ABA graduate program will be focused on ABA courses within the School Psychology graduate program as well as courses in the undergraduate Psychology program. Scholarship, including publications and presentations at state and national conferences, along with service to the department, school, and university are expected for tenure and promotion to associate or full professor.

Clinical Lecturer

Primary teaching responsibilities for this position will include teaching 30 credits per academic year (15 cr. fall & 15 cr. spring) with the candidate's primary teaching load in the ABA graduate program. Five 3-credit courses per semester is the standard teaching load at GCU for non-tenure-track faculty. Any remaining coursework outside of the ABA graduate program will be focused on ABA courses within the School Psychology graduate program as well as courses in the undergraduate Psychology program. Maintenance of an active clinical practice is expected for promotion to senior clinical lecturer.

The Department of Psychology and Counseling houses undergraduate programs leading to a B.A. in Psychology and a B.S. in Psychiatric Rehabilitation and Psychology (jointly with Rutgers University). We offer graduate programs in Applied Behavior Analysis (M.A.), Clinical Mental Health Counseling (M.A. and Professional Certificate), and School Psychology (M.A., Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study, and Psy.D.). The ABA graduate program has a verified course sequence (VCS) through ABAI, the Clinical Mental Health Counseling graduate program is accredited by CACREP, and the School Psychology graduate program is accredited by CAEP, approved by NASP (specialist-level), and has a VCS for its ABA course sequence through ABAI.

The Department currently comprises 12 full-time, tenured or tenure-track faculty members who teach across the undergraduate and graduate programs as well as a full-time field placement coordinator and a staff assistant. The Department of Psychology and Counseling is the largest unit in the School of Arts & Sciences.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Integrate the Mercy core values of respect, integrity, compassion, justice and service in all aspects of interaction.
  • Teach 12 credits of coursework (assistant or associate professor) or 15 credits of coursework (clinical lecturer) per semester across the curriculum in the ABA graduate program, teach ABA courses within the School Psychology graduate program, and also courses aligned with the candidate's specialty area(s) in the undergraduate Psychology program.
  • Teach at the Lakewood, NJ campus and (if necessary) at off-site locations in Lakewood, NJ and Hazlet, NJ.
  • Teaching will primarily be evenings with some day-time assignments.
  • Summer teaching (evenings) in the ABA and School Psychology graduate programs may be required.
  • Develop an active line of scholarship commensurate with a tenure-track position in a teaching university (assistant or associate professor) or maintain an active clinical practice (clinical lecturer)
  • Participate in state-wide and/or national ABA professional organizations.
  • Participate in department, school, and university service.
  • Participate in ongoing approval and/or accreditation activities for the ABA graduate program.
  • Advise/mentor graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Collaborate in program development, student recruitment, student remediation, and continuous program assessment and improvement.
  • Regularly participate in course assessment and program assessment and be willing to make improvements in teaching/advising.
  • Participate in department functions such as information sessions, Open House, etc.
  • Assume program leadership role at a future date.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Required Qualifications for Assistant Professor Rank (tenure-track)
  • Earned doctorate
  • Preference will be given to candidates with the doctorate in Psychology or a combination of Psychology and another area in order for a candidate to be considered (e.g., Psychology or Psychology & ABA or Psychology & Special Education).
  • Candidates who are "ABD" will be considered if they can provide evidence that their doctorate will be completed no later than December 2023.
  • Hold the BCBA or BCBA-D credential. Candidates who do not hold the BCBA or BCBA-D credential will not be considered.
  • Potential for excellence in instruction at the university level.
  • Potential for sustained scholarship production.
  • Participation in state and/or national ABA professional organizations.
  • Desire and willingness to assume program leadership at a later date.

Minimum Required Qualifications for Associate Professor Rank (tenure-track)
  • Earned doctorate
    1. Preference will be given to candidates with the doctorate in Psychology or a combination of Psychology and another area in order for a candidate to be considered (e.g., Psychology or Psychology & ABA or Psychology & Special Education).
    2. Candidates who are "ABD" will be considered if they can provide evidence that their doctorate will be completed no later than December 2023.
      • Hold the BCBA or BCBA-D credential. Candidates who do not hold the BCBA or BCBA-D credential will not be considered.
      • Eligible to supervise ABA graduate students in ABA practicum courses.
      • Prior full-time teaching experience at the college or university level.
      • Evidence of sustained production of scholarly activity.
      • Participation in state and/or national ABA professional organizations.
      • Desire and willingness to eventually assume program leadership.

Minimum Required Qualifications for Clinical Lecturer Rank (non-tenure-track)
  1. Earned doctorate
    • Preference will be given to candidates with the doctorate in Psychology or a combination of Psychology and another area in order for a candidate to be considered (e.g., Psychology or Psychology & ABA or Psychology & Special Education).
    • Candidates who are "ABD" will be considered if they can provide evidence that their doctorate will be completed no later than December 2023.
  2. Hold the BCBA or BCBA-D credential. Candidates who do not hold the BCBA or BCBA-D credential will not be considered.
  3. Potential for excellence in instruction at the university level.
  4. Active clinical practice within the field of ABA.
  5. Participation in state and/or national ABA professional organizations.
  6. Desire and willingness to eventually assume program leadership.
