Summary

The History Department at Washington & Jefferson College invites applications for a tenure track Associate or Assistant Professorship of History with a specialization in modern European history, to begin in the Fall of 2023. We are particularly interested in applications from candidates who have a subspecialty in Mediterranean Studies. We also welcome applications from candidates whose teaching and research use innovative methodological approaches and who have interests in digital or public history.

The successful candidate will be a committed teacher/scholar deeply engaged in their field and committed to innovative, student-centered teaching in an undergraduate liberal arts setting. We look forward to welcoming a colleague eager to mentor a rapidly diversifying student population and to guide undergraduate research projects. Our new colleague will join a rapidly evolving, close-knit department of dynamic teacher/scholars and will play a significant role in re-envisioning our history program. The teaching load is three courses each semester and will include survey courses in modern European history and upper-level seminars in the field of specialization and other areas. As well, members of the department regularly contribute courses to the First Year Seminar Program and to a range of interdisciplinary programs including, Environmental Studies, Gender & Women's Studies, and International Studies.
