The University of Washington's William E. Boeing Department ofAeronautics & Astronautics (A&A) invites applications for afull-time Assistant Teaching Professor position. Assistant TeachingProfessors are non-tenured faculty members who are hired onmulti-year appointments with a 9-month service period (September 16through June 15) that may allow for additional opportunities toteach during the summer. The anticipated start date is September 1,2023. The initial appointment duration and compensation will becommensurate with the applicant's qualifications.

The expected teaching responsibility portfolio for the AssistantTeaching Professor position is variable based upon assignedcombination of lecture courses, laboratory courses, service andcurriculum management. This position will engage partners andcollaborators to teach across the range of aerospace subject areaswith project-based, multidisciplinary, and interdisciplinarylearning. Opportunities exist for coordinating and deliveringproject-based learning curricula. Educational and manufacturingactivities are supported by a full-time instructional machine shopsupervisor and a full-time instructional lab manager. A&Aoffers a highly collaborative culture, with a range of teaching andcurriculum-development opportunities in undergraduate and master'slevel courses. Positive factors for consideration include, but arenot limited to, practical, teaching, industrial and/or professionalexperience in design.

UW faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. WhileAssistant Teaching Professors at UW are primarily evaluated withregard to their teaching and service, the successful candidate willbe encouraged to participate in the wide-range of researchactivities in the department and collaboratively across the Collegeof Engineering and the three UW campuses.

The successful candidate will join a vibrant faculty conductingmultidisciplinary and interdisciplinary ground-breaking research,instruction, and collaboration in controls and autonomous systems,fluids, plasma science and space systems, and materials andstructures. In addition, the successfulcandidate will be expected to:
o engage in project-based, multidisciplinary and interdisciplinaryteaching,
o teach and mentor students, and
o implement a thoughtful strategy for teaching and service thatsupports our commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Qualifications
The position requires a PhD or foreign equivalent in Aerospace orMechanical Engineering or a related field. In addition, candidatesmust have demonstrated excellence in teaching.
