We are looking for an enthusiastic individual preferably with a research laboratory background to join the Faculty of Life Sciences as a Specialist Technician. This is an open-ended contract, working full time 35hrs / week, Monday - Friday

What will you be doing?

Working with the Technical Manager, with assistance from a technical team, the Specialist Technician will have responsibility for the operation and day-to-day management of a defined suite of laboratories and/or communal areas, ensuring they are fit for purpose and compliant with relevant Health and Safety regulations. They will provide a key, daily, connection between academic researchers and technical staff, responding to the changing needs of an active research environment, and ensuring an appropriate level of technical support is maintained at all times.

Deputising for the Research Technical Manager, including supervision of staff, they will also play a critical role in training and continuity, training staff and students, acting as induction coordinator for new staff, offering training on specialist research techniques, and problem solving or troubleshooting on technical matters in their area.

You should preferably have experience of working in a laboratory environment and have an enthusiasm and a desire to provide high quality technical support for research and teaching purposes. You should also demonstrate organisational skills, be efficient, adaptable, and familiar with working in a busy dynamic laboratory environment. The ability to work to deadlines is also required.
