We wish to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to help improve our understanding of how cancer affects people's lives. You will be coordinating and conducting research into the assessment of health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in people with cancer. This research is funded by the European Organisation for Research and Treatment in Cancer (EORTC) Quality of Life Group (QLG), the largest research organisation of its kind whose mission is to improve HRQoL of people with cancer through dedicated research and the development of HRQoL measures.
In partnership with world experts in the field of HRQoL and oncology, our team have already made a significant contribution to the portfolio of EORTC QLG measures and thus have an established reputation for high quality research in this field.
This post will primarily involve the coordination of a multi-centre international project to assess HRQoL in people with gastrointestinal cancers (including stomach, pancreatic and anal cancer). Working under the supervision of the Senior Research Fellow, Dr Samantha Sodergren, you will be responsible for the operational management of the project including all aspects of the project life course from protocol design and approvals to research governance, collaborator engagement, site set-up, data collection, analysis, and dissemination.
We are looking for someone who has a PhD or a research-related qualification (e.g., an MSc or MRes), experience in a health-related area and a keen interest in the field of cancer and/ or gastrointestinal diseases and quality of life. Excellent inter-personal, communication, and organisational skills are essential. This post is offered full time with the potential for an extension after this time. Flexible working will be considered.
Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
A standard DBS check is required for this role.
Informal enquiries are very welcome and encouraged. Please contact Dr Samantha Sodergren ( S.C.Sodergren@soton.ac.uk ) for further information.
We aim to be an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all sections of the community.
