We are seeking a highly motivated scientist to join our in vivo pharmacology team in the Cardiovascular and Metabolic (CVM) Disease Area at the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research (NIBR) located in Cambridge, MA. Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death worldwide, taking an estimated 17.9 million lives each year. Our team is dedicated to the creation and development of innovative medicines to change this alarming statistic. We conceive, develop, validate, and employ pharmacological tools to evaluate the efficacy and safety of novel cardiovascular drug candidates.
As an In Vivo Pharmacologist, you will work independently and collaboratively in an inter-disciplinary setting to execute experiments in preclinical models, analyze data, write study reports, and give oral presentations to support drug discovery, while broadening your knowledge in the field.
What you will be doing (key responsibilities):
•Assist in the design, execution, analysis, and documentation of in vivo experiments
•Plan and perform pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) studies
•Perform biochemical and/or histological analyses on samples
•Assist in data analysis and interpretation
•Present results in lab and department meetings
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $80,000.00 and $100,000.00 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. What you will bring to the role:
•BS/MS in pharmacology, biochemistry, cell biology, or other life science area
•Experience with handling, dosing, and phenotyping (including blood and tissue collection) in mice is a must
•Proven expertise in PK/PD experimental design and execution
•Hands-on experience with histology, biochemical assays (e.g., protein and gene expression), RNA extraction and/or RT-qPCR and/or is highly desirable
•Drug discovery experience is desirable
•Experience in working with a multidisciplinary team of scientists
•Basic knowledge of statistics and experience with common statistical software for biomedical research
•Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
•Strong written, oral and record keeping skills
•An ability to work both independently and as part of a team
•Flexibility and aptitude for learning, with a passion to drive groundbreaking science
