The Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disease Area (CVM) of the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research (NIBR) is committed to changing this alarming statistic by discovering transformative medicines to treat cardiovascular and metabolic disorders.
We are seeking a highly motivated in vitro Research Scientist to join our Biochemistry team. Here you will advance our understanding of disease biology and the discovery of new drugs, by contributing to target validation, assay development and drug screening efforts throughout the disease area and in collaboration with the larger research organization.

What you will be doing (key responsibilities):
•Plan, develop and perform biochemical and cellular assays for drug discovery.
•Support assay development, profiling of therapeutic leads, target validation and mechanism-of-action studies
•Support animal pharmacology studies by developing and performing ex vivo assays
•Conduct data analyses and documentation of experiments.
•Collaborate effectively while working in a matrixed environment.
•Have good laboratory, data recording and data documentation practices.
•Present results in lab and department meetings.
•Assist in writing of research documents and publications.

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $80,000.00 and $100,000.00 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

Minimum Requirements

What you will bring to the role:
•MS degree in biochemistry, molecular or cell biology, biophysics, biomedical engineering or a related field, or a BS degree and at least 1-3 years of relevant laboratory experience.
•Experience in independently developing and executing biochemical and cellular assays for drug discovery is preferred. Experience with siRNA technology is a plus, but not required.
•Flexibility and aptitude for learning, with the ability to quickly grasp new techniques and apply them to your work.
•Experience in generation, analysis, and presentation of scientific data.
•Creative problem-solving capabilities.
•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively in a matrixed team environment.
•Laboratory work experience is preferred, whereas industrial experience is not essential.
•Interest and willingness to work in any of the following disease areas: obesity, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, atherosclerosis.
