Berklee College of Music invites applications for a full time faculty position to teach Latin American History in the Liberal Arts and Sciences Department. The Department, one of the largest at Berklee, serves students at both Berklee College of Music and the Boston Conservatory at Berklee. It offers an innovative Liberal Arts and Sciences Program including courses and minors in the humanities, social sciences, mathematics, and natural sciences. Berklee's Liberal Arts and Sciences offerings are designed to empower students to advance personal communication, engage in critical and creative thinking, and develop holistically as citizens of the world and informed artists.

Reporting to and under the supervision of the Chair of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the ideal candidate will have content expertise and be skilled in pedagogical practices that engage students and make education relevant. Additionally, they will be student centered and dedicated to the role of Liberal Arts and Sciences in the education of artists. This is a 9-month, in-person position (fall/spring semesters) with opportunity for teaching during the summer semester. Contract is renewable. Compensation is commensurate with professional experience.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ph.D. in History (Latin American)
  • Experience teaching at the university level
  • Record of creative scholarship/professional activity
  • Demonstration of collaboration and participation in professional organizations
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Command of technology to support professional work and advance teaching and learning
  • Commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Teach courses in History, as assigned
  • Submit syllabi for all courses assigned
  • Attend Department meetings and contribute to the faculty community of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Professional Education Division, and Berklee
  • Hold weekly office hours for students
  • Engage in professional development to maintain and continually advance teaching skills
  • Contribute via service projects/committee assignments to advance the work and offerings of Liberal Arts and Sciences
  • Participate in professional organizations and/or activities beyond campus borders
  • Attend College-wide events (e.g., Opening Day) and follow all other guidelines per the Faculty Contract Agreement
  • Other duties as assigned

START DATE

The start date for the position is Summer/Fall 2023.
