Job Description
Position Objective

Working under general supervision, the Research Assistant 2 will plan and carry out research projects in clinical genomics. Studies include clinical studies that focus on germline and somatic testing of patients with genitourinary (GU) tumors. Other studies evaluate the utility of genomic testing in the case of cancer patients with GU tumors.

Essential Functions
  1. Working closely with the principal investigator, plan and carry out studies in accordance with study protocols. (10%)
  2. Recruit and enroll patients, and track enrollment. (15%)
  3. Screen and identify eligible patients for studies from University Hospitals Health system, the Cleveland Clinic and MetroHealth Medical Center. (15%)
  4. Plan and carry out data collection, data entry, data cleaning, data analysis and generate reports. (20%)
  5. Administer structured interviews and complete functional assessments and other study procedures including transportation of blood samples to the lab. (20%)
  6. Perform IRB and regulatory functions. Medical records abstraction. (15%)


NonEssential Functions

Attend weekly meetings. Perform other duties as assigned. (5%)

CONTACTS

Department: Daily contact with principal investigator and project manager, other collaborators and investigators for planning.

University: Occasional contact with other departments such as Urology and Radiation Department to coordinate trial participation of patients in genomic studies.

External: Regular contact with study participants and weekly contact with other study investigators and collaborators to help with recruitment and enrollments of patients from the University Hospitals Health System.

Students: Rare contact with students that might be involved in a specific genetic study as co-investigators.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct supervision of staff employees. May train new staff and/or direct the work of students.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Licensing: Bachelor's degree in science or health-related field and 1 to 3 years of experience or Associate's degree in an approved biotechnology program and 2 to 4 years of experience required. Experience with clinical or basic research preferred. Human Subjects Certification. Valid Ohio Driver's license required.

REQUIRED SKILLS
  1. Must have strong computer skills. Must have good Internet knowledge including accessing online genomic databases. Good knowledge of MS Office suite, especially Excel and Word. SAS and redcap knowledge is helpful but not essential.
  2. Must be highly organized.
  3. Must be able to pay high attention to details with negligible/minimum error rate in carrying out study procedures and data entry.
  4. Must have excellent social and interpersonal skills.
  5. Must have excellent interviewing skills.
  6. Excellent command of English language.
  7. Must have ability to follow protocol.
  8. Able to function with minimum supervision.
  9. Must have the ability to work collaboratively with clinicians, nurses, and research team.
  10. Must be able to work independently under limited supervision, be self-motivated, and find effective solutions for challenging data collection problems.
  11. Ability to meet consistent attendance.
  12. Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors and customers face to face.


WORKING CONDITIONS

May need to transport blood samples to research lab. Work will require travel to multiple sites.
