Description
West Virginia University Research Corporation is seeking applications for a Post Doctoral Fellow with the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine

About the Opportunity

Health Science Center of West Virginia University (Morgantown, WV), is recruiting for a Postdoctoral fellow to join a membrane biochemistry laboratory that focuses on characterizing mechanisms that regulate membrane trafficking and fusion in mammalian cells. Membrane trafficking and fusion are critical aspects of cell biology that enable numerous processes, such synaptic transmission, immune cell function, autophagy and intracellular transport, yet many of the molecular mechanisms that regulate these fusion reactions are poorly understood.

The multi-disciplinary lab addresses a range of biological questions by combining in vitro biochemistry approaches with advanced imaging and cell biology. We are particularly seeking talented, curious, creative and motivated candidates who have experience with, or strong interest in developing expertise in:

-Molecular biology/cloning, western blot, ICC and live-cell fluorescence microscopy, mammalian cell culture, CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing and induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) biology.

At WVU Research Corporation, we strongly believe in work-life balance and keeping time for things we love outside our work. WVU Research Corporation offers a comprehensive benefits package with a variety of options to suit your needs:

* 13 paid holidays (staff holiday calendar)

* PTO

* 403(b) retirement savings with a fully vested 3% employee contribution match, (Employees have the option of contributing an additional 1-3% of their earnings to the plan, which is also matched by the WVURC)

* A range of health insurance and various other benefits

* Dependent Education Scholarship

* WVU Perks

* And More!!

What you'll do:

The ideal candidate will work towards leading the lab's endeavor to apply new advances and state-of-the-art approaches to implement unique models of human disease using iPSC-derived neurons. A priority project will be to use iPSC-derived neurons to examine how defects in 1) autophagy, and/or 2) the synaptic vesicle cycle, contribute to the development of neurodegenerative disease.

Qualifications
Minimum qualifications: PhD in a relevant field, including cell biology, biochemistry, neuroscience, or bioengineering.
Strong publication record. Interest in developing and applying models of human disease using iPSC-derived neuronal culture.
Use iPSC-derived neurons to examine how defects in 1) autophagy, and/or 2) the synaptic vesicle cycle, contribute to the development of neurodegenerative disease.
Molecular biology/cloning, western blot, ICC and live-cell fluorescence microscopy, mammalian cell culture, CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing and induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) biology.
While relevant prior experience is preferred, specific project-related training will be provided.

Requirements
Interested candidates are encouraged to apply by providing a brief cover letter and a copy of their CV.
