Senior Scientist - Biology

Summary
The Biology Department is seeking a self-motivated, knowledgeable, and technically skilled researcher with expertise in the field of Biology who wishes to play a key role in advancing novel drug candidates from discovery into the clinic. Senior Scientists at Arcus work in a highly embedded and collaborative model with colleagues across the organization.
Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be expected to provide in-depth knowledge, technical expertise, and insights as it relates to Arcus drug development programs. These qualities will be utilized routinely to devise and implement a variety of relevant in vivo and in vitro model systems. These models will be used to build an in-depth understanding and biological datasets surrounding Arcus drug targets and drug candidates. Senior Scientists will contribute both intellectually and experimentally as part of a multidisciplinary team, routinely collating and presenting data in both internal and external forums, and independently driving aspects of various drug discovery programs.

Qualifications
  • 3+ years of drug discovery experience in a high-quality industry environment is required
    • As part of this experience, demonstrated contribution to the progression of one or more drug discovery programs is needed
    • Experience generating IND study reports and/or patent examples, engaging with clinical and/or translational teams, participating in due diligence for in- or out-licensing opportunities, and managing external academic collaborations or CRO work orders highly sought after
  • PhD in Biology or immunology or a closely related field (postdoctoral training is a plus)
    • As part of this experience, a clear track record of productivity as evidenced by consistent publication/presentation record is needed
  • Intellectual and experimental proficiency in various aspects of immunology gained through demonstrated research experience. Ideally this proficiency would include:
    • Practical experience using in vivo tumor, autoimmune, or inflammation models
    • Isolation and culture of primary immune cells (mouse and human)
    • Familiarity with current literature in cancer/immuno-oncology, including wet-lab and bioinformatic-based approaches
    • Expertise related to common immunological assays, including 10+ parameter flow cytometry panel design and implementation of methods to assess functionality of various immune cell populations
  • Leadership, managerial, and/or mentorship experience, willingness to serve as a knowledge and technical resource, ease in working with others
  • Ability to focus and deliver on time-sensitive objectives
  • Comfort with rapidly shifting goals as well as organizational changes and evolution

This role is based at our Hayward, CA location. The anticipated salary range for fully qualified candidates applying for this position is $125,000 - $170,000. Factors such as relevant experience, education, duration of experience, and length of industry experience will influence the actual salary offered.
