POSITION SUMMARY

Teach and mentor emergent drama therapists at an internationally recognized, long-standing graduate Drama Therapy Program (one of first two in the US) and be part of influencing the growth of the field.

The Drama Therapy Program in the Department of Counseling Psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) prepares students for both Registry as a Drama Therapist (RDT) and the California LMFT (Marriage and Family Therapist) licensure (and optionally also the national LPCC - Professional Clinical Counselor licensure), and for a wide range of career options within the field of drama therapy.

The full-time position primarily entails teaching a range of graduate level drama therapy courses (experiential, theoretical, and clinically-oriented); serving as a faculty advisor; and collaborating with other faculty on all aspects of the program - including admissions, curriculum development, special venues and creative projects, new directions in the field, student progress and assessment, and practicums.

Job Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • MA degree (doctoral degree preferred, and MA from a Drama Therapy Program preferred)
  • RDT (Registered Drama Therapist) credential (preferably also BCT- Board Certified Trainer of Drama Therapists credential)
  • Strong teaching experience (generally at least 5 years, with graduate school teaching preferred) and pedagogical expertise
  • Strong clinical drama therapy experience (generally at least 8 years practicing in field of drama therapy, with experience in community mental health preferred)
  • Demonstrated interest in scholarly productivity, research, and presentation (generally at least one publication in a professional refereed journal and multiple conference presentations)
  • Demonstrated background, knowledge, and skill to teach a range of drama therapy courses (in-depth knowledge of Integrative Five Phase model and another primary model in field of drama therapy preferred)
  • Ability to weave social justice concepts into the curriculum
  • Demonstrated skills at collaboration and at working generatively as part of a team
  • Background in Psychology as well as Theatre
  • Professional licensure preferred (LMFT, LPCC, LCSW, or Clinical Psychologist)

Note: There is a possibility of advancement to a higher level position in the coming years for a strongly qualified person.

LOCATION

Primarily on-campus, but also some remote and hybrid.

WAGES AND BENEFITS

Wages are commensurate with skills and experience and include a competitive benefits package.

Eligibility to receive paid semester-long sabbaticals after every 7 semesters of teaching.
