Position Description
We are currently accepting applications for the Dean of Liberal Arts position. The interview process will begin approximately February 2023.
Pay Grade: Manager 9
The Dean, Liberal Arts provides oversight and leadership of the Liberal Arts Division and serves as the senior representative of university transfer.
Responsibilities and Duties (*Essential Functions)
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the primary job functions herein described.
* Collaborates with the Dean of Mathematics and Sciences to meet the general and developmental education needs of all degree programs
* Provides oversight and ensures quality control for the Associate in Arts degree, the Associate in Fine Arts degree, and the Academic Foundations offerings as well as general education courses provided by the division
* Develops relevant institutionally effective success metrics for the division and oversees the development of faculty goals that contribute to the accomplishment of the division and College goals
* Assures internal and external collaboration and communication with students, other college service areas, the NCCCS, the WCPSS, businesses and industries, community groups, university partners, and other external agencies that support the mission, goals, policies, and procedures of the College and Division
* Represents all college transfer programs in strategic planning, implementation, and assessment initiatives
* Represents Wake Tech transfer programs in articulation agreement development and CAA activities
* Leads efforts to achieve equity in transfer student success, maintain compliance in accreditation standards, and advance innovation in accordance with developments in higher education
* Develops assessment plans for general education core competencies and student learning outcomes
Represents transfer programs in grant acquisitions, compliance activities, and reporting
Projects division needs and secures staff, supplies, equipment, and facilities through sound budget management and accountability
Manages the recruitment, selection, and orientation of division faculty and staff
Promotes a culture of continuous improvement and professional development
Mediates staff, faculty, and student grievances
Ensures that graduation requirements meet CAA standards
Completes an annual applied benchmark project on an individual or group basis as required
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to lead and manage in an academic setting
Knowledge of College Transfer program and General Education assessment
Excellent human relations skills, interpersonal skills, and strong verbal and written communication skills
Requirements:
Master's degree in Arts, Humanities, or Social Sciences OR Master's degree with 18 graduate hours in Arts, Humanities, or Social Sciences
A combination of five years of full-time post-secondary teaching and academic leadership experience
Preferences:
Community college teaching, administration, and supervision of faculty
