We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Director, Medical, Clinical & Scientific Affairs within our Abbott Rapid Diagnostics (ARDx) Division. This newly created opportunity is part of our Infectious Diseases Developed Markets (IDDM) Business Unit. As a senior leader at the Medical, Clinical & Scientific Affairs Centers of Excellence for the IDDM Business Unit , this position will play a key role in contributing to the innovation road map and defining R&D pipeline for business growth and commercial success.

This position is to be located at Lake Forest, IL and reports into the DVP Medical, Scientific and Clinical Affairs. Relocation support is available.

As a strategic thought leader , you will assess emerging and/or unmet medical needs in the developed markets, provide rationales for new product introduction and on market product sustenance, evaluate opportunities for product improvements, innovative ideas and disruptive technologies, support post launch MCS activities, post market product adoption. You will interact with functions such as Global Marketing, R&D, Commercial , Quality and Regulatory Affairs within IDDM and ARDx

Lead Key Opinion Leader (KOL) advocacy efforts and manage Scientific Advisory Boards designed to secure feedback to shape our clinical & Business strategies. You will provide guidance on designs for pre- and post-market clinical studies aimed to demonstrate value propositions through clinical and economic outcomes. You and your team will provide medical support for direct customer interactions as needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Strengthen Medical Affairs functional capabilities, implement process and procedure to serve business compliantly (to ARDx quality system), effectively and efficiently.
  • Work with Global Marketing, R&D to assess emerging and/or unmet medical needs in the developed markets, provide rationales for new product introduction and on market product sustenance, evaluate opportunities for product improvements, innovative ideas and disruptive technologies.
  • Provide global strategic direction for completion of medical opinions, medical platform documents and/ or Health Hazard Assessment.
  • Review and approve medical input for promotional and commercial activities as requested. Provide strategic direction for the performance of clinical studies related to product development and commercial/ marketing activities.
  • Serve as the key medical representative to provide inputs to Abbott Regulatory Affairs pertaining to external regulatory agencies and IVDR
  • Provides medical and scientific support for direct customer interactions as needed
  • Provide support to regional medical teams in devolving medical plans aligned with global Medical, Clinical, and Scientific Affairs strategy.
  • Lead the medical/scientific team.
  • Lead Clinical Market development to support product adoption and new product launch.
  • Must comply with and enforce all Office of Ethics and Compliance guidelines.

EXPERIENCE YOU'LL BRING
  • MD/ PhD Degree with clinical experience including Infectious Diseases
  • Minimum 8 years clinical experience and 5 years industry experience
  • Knowledge of IVD regulations and standards affecting IVDs and Biologics
  • Industry, product development and customer knowledge required.
  • Proven leader with passion and skills for strategic and critical thinking, problem solving, motivating and mentoring team members. Collaborative Team member.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Market experience in developed markets
  • MBA desirable
  • Clinical experience in Infectious Diseases
  • Health Outcomes Research Experience
