Job Description:

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Siena College invites applications for a one-year visiting assistant professor position for the 2023-24 academic year.

The successful candidate will teach 24 contact hours during the academic year with primary teaching responsibilities in the general chemistry lecture and laboratory courses. Depending on the candidate's background and the department's needs, there may be opportunities to teach other courses. While establishing a research program which engages undergraduate students and takes advantage of our instrumentation center is not required for the position, opportunities to do so are available.

Job Requirements:

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in chemistry or a closely related field and a commitment to excellence in teaching in a liberal arts environment. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply, though we particularly encourage applications from candidates with experience teaching small undergraduate courses with inclusive pedagogies.

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry employs eleven full-time faculty, dedicated general and organic chemistry lab managers, and several long-term adjunct faculty. The department is committed to fostering a culture of collegiality, cooperation, and collaboration between department members, support staff, and the students we serve. As a PUI, we are dedicated to meeting our diverse students where they are, and providing them pathways for success in STEM fields.

A background screening is required.

Additional Information:

Siena College is committed to attracting, supporting, and retaining a diverse body of faculty, staff, and administrators. We actively encourage applications from women, minorities, persons with disabilities, veterans, and others from underrepresented groups who may make a positive contribution to the diversification of ideas and perspectives.

Siena College is an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation or gender identity, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.

A COVID-19 vaccination is required for employees pursuant to the COVID-19 policy.

If a foreign national applicant is selected for a qualifying position, the College will sponsor and prepare petitions with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Bureau of the Department of Homeland Security ("USCIS") to obtain H-1B status in the United States, which will allow them to work at the College for a specified period of time. Only specialty occupations will qualify for H-1B status under applicable federal law.

Application Instructions:

Review of applications will begin March 1 and continue until the position is filled. Electronic submission of application materials through Interview Exchange is required.

A complete application includes: (1) a cover letter, (2) curriculum vitae, (3) a one-page teaching statement that addresses your commitment to excellence in undergraduate instruction and fostering a vibrant and inclusive classroom environment, (4) unofficial undergraduate and graduate transcripts, and (5) contact information for 3 professional references who will be contacted for reference letters upon your submission of all required application materials.

Siena College offers a competitive salary and benefits package. Salary is commensurate with academic credentials. Questions regarding this position should be directed to the department chair (Lucas Tucker ltucker@siena.edu).
