6000! That’s the number of associates in the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR). This division is the innovation engine of Novartis, focusing on powerful new technologies that have the potential to help produce therapeutic breakthroughs for patients.

As a Data Science Intern, you will join our Modeling & Simulation Data Science team in the Translational Medicine Unit and help us to unleash the power of data science for drug discovery. You will bring your curious, innovative, and collaborative mindset to make the best use of the absorption, distribution, metabolism, and extraction (ADME) data generated within our department and use state-of-the-art machine learning (ML) methods and statistical techniques to accelerate drug design.

Timing: April 2023 (preferred starting date)
Duration: 3 months

Your responsibilities:

• Use statistical techniques and develop novel machine-learning models to generate insights related to the discovery data
• Apply data mining to understand relationships between structure and compound properties
• Present project outcomes to technical and non-technical audiences

Minimum Requirements

Minimum requirements:

• MSc in a quantitative field (statistics, data science, mathematics) or life sciences, preferably with multidisciplinary background (cheminformatics, bioinformatics, biomedical engineering)
• Strong understanding of statistics and experience with machine learning
• Knowledge of Python and/or R
• Previous research experience either in academia or industry
• Excellent communication skills and ability to translate analytical concepts for diverse audience and stakeholders (English is our primary language)

Desirable:
• Demonstrated knowledge of data visualization and exploratory analysis
• Experience with reproducible data science tools and practices
• ADME/PK knowledge
• Experience in the application of data science methods to drug discovery
