6000! That’s the number of associates in the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR). This division is the innovation engine of Novartis, focusing on powerful new technologies that have the potential to help produce therapeutic breakthroughs for patients.

NIBR Biologics Center (NBC) is responsible to create new Biologics entities ranging from monoclonal antibodies to adeno-associated virus (AAV), and to ensure their fitness to requirements that a drug must fulfill.
To support our Biologics pipeline, we are looking for a talented person to join the Characterization, Formulation and Bioinformatics (CFB) unit in Basel. You have hands-on technical laboratory experience and have the desire to work in a highly technical role within a dynamic and flexible working environment? During the internship, you will be supporting projects with state-of-the-art analytical techniques, including HPLC/UPLC systems and establish new analytical solutions for the separation and quantification of AAVs.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
• Performance of physico-chemical characterizations using state-of-the-art analytical equipment including HPLC/UPLC systems
• Support establishment of novel analytical methodologies
• Processing of data, results interpretation and preparation of summary documents and reports including final documentation in electronic lab journal
• Learning on the job, independent literature search and elaboration/ proposal of new concepts
• Writing and updating lab procedures, reports and/or instructions/SOP’s

Minimum Requirements

• MSc or equivalent education in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or a related discipline
• Solid theoretical knowledge of protein chemistry and analytical methods for chromatography-based characterization of AAV’s or proteins
• Practical experience in the field of liquid chromatography is of advantage
• Diligent and accurate working style, as well as excellent communication and organizational skills are required. Capability to perform and interact with a global multi-disciplinary team
• Ability to work independently and to interpret scientific data, curious to learn and develop into new scientific areas
• Good knowledge of laboratory, technical & computational tools
• Proficiency in English (oral and written), German of advantage
