Samford University's Howard College of Arts and Sciences invites individuals interested in serving in a Christian university environment to submit applications for one of three full-time non-tenure-track positions on an annual appointment, renewable twice to a maximum of three years. The successful candidate will primarily teach in the Core Texts program which is an essential element of Samford's distinctive Core Curriculum required of all undergraduates. Core Texts comprises a two-course sequence that invites students to read and analyze classic texts, explore the history of ideas, and engage with great philosophical questions. Depending on expertise and curricular need, the selected applicant may also have the opportunity to offer disciplinary courses or to contribute to the Core Writing program. Consisting of an introductory writing course followed by a freshman writing seminar, the Core Writing sequence challenges students to develop as thinkers, writers, and communicators. The appointment will begin in August 2023.

This position will carry a seven-course-per-year teaching load, either 4/3 or 3/4. Qualified candidates will hold a Ph.D. in Classics, History, Philosophy, or a closely related field at the time of appointment from an institutionally accredited college or university. Candidates must be committed to teaching excellence, student development and mentorship, and collegial collaboration. Successful candidates will be housed in academic departments based on Ph.D. discipline.
