The Dana-Farber/Boston Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center is seeking a pediatric hematologist/oncologist at the Assistant or Associate Professor level with expertise in non-malignant hematology to serve as Director of Hematology Clinical Operations.

Applicants should have at least three (3) years of experience in treating non-malignant hematology in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Previous administrative experience is preferred. We are seeking an outstanding individual who would have the opportunity to participate in all clinical activities of non-malignant hematology, and/or focus their activity based on specific clinical interest.

Essential functions

Specific job functions/responsibilities:

  • In concert with Associate Chief (and Chief), oversee Ambulatory, Inpatient, Consult, and Procedural functions of the Division in non-malignant hematology
  • In concert with the Associate Chief and input from the Division Chief, assign service assignments and develop call schedules for clinical services in non-malignant hematology
  • Supervision and oversight of Advanced Practice Clinicians (both inpatient and ambulatory)
  • Oversight of administrative personnel responsible for clinical in-patient and out-patient operations in non-malignant hematology
  • Oversight of Patient Relations in concert with Associate Chief of Hematology
  • Serve as International and Out of State (OOS) Referrals Liaison
  • Attendance at Divisional and Department of Pediatrics (DOP) Administrative meetings
  • Assisting the Division Chief and the Associate Chief in annual reviews for clinicians

 

Shared responsibilities between Associate Chief and Clinical Director:

  • In concert with the Associate Chief - Physician Mentoring (as needed, coordinated with Division Chief)
  • In concert with the Associate Chief, periodic reviews of physician and Advanced Practice Clinicians productivity
  • In concert with the Chief and Associate Chief and other leadership as needed, planning for new clinical facilities
  • In concert with the Associate Chief, process improvement for clinical operations
  • Residency training issues (ambulatory/inpatient service) – in conjunction with non-malignant Hematology rotation liaison
  • Working with Division leadership to address interpersonal conflicts and HR issues that may arise
  • Assist with quality and safety initiatives in collaboration with H/O Division Director of Quality and Safety

 

The Dana-Farber/Boston Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center has a faculty numbering more than 130, with exceptional research and clinical programs in non-malignant hematology, hematologic malignancies, solid tumors, and neurooncology, a robust Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant Program, Vascular Anomalies Center and world-leading Experimental Therapeutics and Gene Therapy Programs.

The clinical service in non-malignant hematology includes a busy inpatient consult service, and approximately 5000 ambulatory visits per year, including about 1500 new patients annually.
