The Business, Technology, and Workforce Education division at Waubonsee Community College is currently seeking a full-time, tenure-track, skilled Instructor of Collision and Refinishing Technology with a commitment to teaching excellence, diversity, equity and holistic student success for the award winning, Master Certified Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) accredited program.

The role is responsible for student learning assessment, developing curriculum, and providing instruction on the collision repair and refinishing process. The program provides hands-on skills in areas including, but not limited to: autobody repair, surface preparation, painting, frame repair, welding, collision appraisal, and other related processes required to ensure workforce ready graduates who have the opportunity to pursue an Associate in Applied Science degree in Auto Body Repair, as well as two Certificate of Achievement programs.

The role is based at the Sugar Grove Campus and teaching assignment and duties may include days, evenings and/or weekends and courses are primarily face-to-face, flex, but may be offered in various delivery modes, i.e. flex, online, synch-online, and hybrid. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to use instructional and classroom technology effectively to enhance teaching and learning.

Duties and expectations of this position include, but are not limited to:


Demonstrating a thorough and accurate knowledge of the field or discipline, and staying current in the subject matter through professional development, involvement in professional organizations, and attending professional meetings, conferences, or workshops.

Teaching introductory and upper level content courses in the discipline.

Leading course and curriculum improvement for new and existing collision and refinishing courses.

Designing syllabi, lessons, activities, assignments and assessments that address the needs of a diverse student population and ensure that students successfully meet program and course objectives and outcomes.

Incorporating learning-centered principles and concepts and motivating students to participate actively in all aspects of the educational experience.

Employing instructional and classroom technology appropriately and effectively to deliver and enhance teaching and learning in all delivery modes.

Assisting the department in the areas of curriculum development, student success initiatives, student advising, adjunct faculty mentorship, assessment of student learning, support for student clubs and organizations.

Collaborating with team members, industry, and partners (i.e. Advisory Committee, employers, transfer institutions, and secondary partners) to design and implement the most effective program that aligns with industry standards and workforce needs.

Working collaboratively with professional colleagues to serve the needs of students and the community.

Modeling professionalism with excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate degree in Collision and Refinishing Technology and Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certified Master Collision Repair Technician credentials (B2-B5) or ASE Certified Master Collision Repair Technician credentials (B2-B5) and a minimum of 4000 hours of work-related experience in the field of Collision Repair Technology.

Preferred Qualifications

Two years of post-secondary teaching experience in Collision and Refinishing Technology.

Teaching experience at the Vocational/Technical or Community College level highly preferred.

Five or more years of related industry experience.

ASE Damage Analysis & Estimating Certification (B6).

I-CAR or equivalent industry related training.

Experience incorporating technology and multimedia applications into teaching and learning process and interest in all forms of alternative learning is highly desirable.

Interdisciplinary focus integrating innovative learning strategies and the demonstrated ability to enhance the success of diverse student populations is essential.

Experience teaching traditionally underserved populations.
