The Philosophy, Cosmology, and Consciousness program at CIIS invites applications for a core faculty position at the rank of assistant or associate professor that begins in July 2023. We invite applications from qualified candidates who specialize in Archetypal and Transpersonal studies or a related field, especially with respect to cosmology, cultural history, the arts, and/or gender.

The Philosophy, Cosmology, and Consciousness graduate program offers online and residential M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Philosophy and Religion. Our graduate degrees are motivated by the desire to help shape the intellectual, moral, and spiritual leadership necessary in our own day for meeting the complex, interlocking challenges facing human beings and the Earth itself. In doing so, we seek new and transformative pathways across multiple disciplines, including an expanded vision of philosophy, cosmology, and consciousness inspired by the world's spiritual traditions, the natural sciences, Indigenous lifeways, esoteric approaches, depth psychology, environmental humanities, and integral ecologies.

Job Requirements:

Full-time CIIS core faculty members are responsible for teaching 18 units of graduate-level courses, or their equivalent, per academic year. Core faculty also advise students, participate in CIIS faculty meetings and institutional committees, work collaboratively with faculty and program chair, conduct information sessions and admissions interviews, attend CIIS-wide Open Houses, and engage in professional development.

Candidates should have a PhD in philosophy, religious studies, or a related field and university-level teaching experience. In addition, the ideal candidate will have a record of publication, online teaching experience, strong facilitation skills, experience teaching in a multicultural classroom, and a commitment to engaged scholarship.

In reviewing applications, the committee will place high value on:
  • Commitment to the mission and disciplines explored by the PCC department.
  • Inspiring and effective teaching skills, including facilitation of experiential learning.
  • Experience and proficiency in both online and in-person teaching.
  • Experience in teaching courses that address the intersection of philosophy, cosmology, consciousness, and/or the emerging field of integral ecology
  • Ability to mentor students and direct doctoral dissertations.
  • Scholarly publications and engaged scholarship in Archetypal and Transpersonal Studies or related fields
  • Good communication skills and willingness to work towards harmonious solutions in group processes.
  • Willingness to participate in PCC community events, annual program retreats, and to take up administrative responsibilities

Due to the unique mission of CIIS and the PCC program, candidates are urged to consult the PCC pages at the CIIS website (, to assess their alignment with the departmental and institutional missions.
